Job summary

Placements24 is seeking a Senior Geoscientist with a strong Exploration focus to join a client team in Welkom. You will leverage seismic interpretation, basin analysis and geological modeling to identify and evaluate new hydrocarbon prospects.

The role requires 8+ years in geoscience exploration, MSc or PhD in Geology/Geophysics, and proficiency with Petrel, Hampson-Russell and OpendTect. You will collaborate with engineers to define targets and support drilling, while benefiting from a hybrid

Qualifications

• MSc or PhD in Geology, Geophysics, or a related Earth Science discipline.
• At least 8 years of experience in geoscience exploration roles, preferably in Oil & Gas.
• Expertise in seismic interpretation software (e.g., Petrel, Hampson-Russell, OpendTect).
• Strong understanding of petroleum systems, sedimentology, stratigraphy, and structural geology.
• Proven ability to work effectively in multidisciplinary teams.
• Excellent analytical, reporting, and presentation skills.

Responsibilities

• Conduct integrated geological and geophysical studies for exploration acreage evaluation and appraisal.
• Generate and mature exploration leads and prospects, developing detailed geological models.
• Interpret seismic data (2D/3D), well logs, core data, and other subsurface information.
• Assess geological risks and uncertainties related to hydrocarbon accumulation.
• Collaborate with reservoir and drilling engineers to define well targets and support drilling operations.

About the Role

Our client seeks a highly skilled Senior Geoscientist with a strong focus on Exploration to join their team in Welkom . This role is integral to identifying and assessing new prospective hydrocarbon basins and opportunities. You will leverage advanced geophysical and geological techniques to interpret complex subsurface data, contributing to strategic decision-making for future exploration ventures. The position requires extensive experience in basin analysis, prospect generation, and risk assessment within the challenging Oil & Gas landscape, supported by a hybrid work model that balances field and office contributions with remote flexibility.
