Job summary

Workwize is seeking a Senior Software Engineer to shape technical direction for our hybrid Amsterdam-based team. You will lead end-to-end feature work, decide on architecture, and ensure delivery of scalable software that powers our 100+ country deployments.

You’ll mentor engineers, push for intelligent use of AI tooling, and partner closely with PMs and EMs to improve processes and outcomes. A strong communication style and bias for action are essential.

We're hiring a Senior Software Engineer . Not a senior title for someone who executes well, but the engineer other engineers calibrate against. You see the thing that's broken, decide it's worth fixing, and start. Nobody assigns that to you.

We want to be blunt about the bar, because last time we weren't. This role is not "ship tickets faster than a mid-level engineer". It's technical leadership, coaching, challenging how we work, and being the person the EM and PM think out loud with. If that's not the job you want, this will be a bad year for both of us.

What you'll do

• Lead feature work end to end: shape the scope with the PM, make the architectural calls, decide what to cut, and own whether it actually worked once it's live.
• Use agents and AI tooling as your default way of building, and pull the rest of the team up to where you are. What you can do with a model this month should be what the team can do with it next month.
• Coach the engineers around you, including the ones who are not junior. Pairing, review, handing over scope, and direct feedback that changes how someone works.
• Change how we work without asking permission first. Spot the process that's costing the team time, build the case, get the buy in, and show the before and after.
• Be a real partner to the EM and PM. Push back on the roadmap, bring the problem nobody had noticed, and say the uncomfortable thing early rather than politely late.
• Connect what you ship to what the company is trying to achieve, with a number you chose and then went back and looked at.

Who you are

• You have 8+ years building software at product companies, and you're currently a Senior Software Engineer, Lead Engineer, Tech Lead, Senior Full Stack Engineer, Senior Product Engineer or similar. You've worked in a real cross functional team, not alone and not in a two person shop.
• You have a deep technical and architecture foundation. You can explain how the systems you built fit together, why you made each trade off, and what would break first under load. AI makes you faster, it does not stand in for understanding what you shipped.
• You use AI and agents as your default way of working, and you can name the tools, models and harnesses. You know exactly which parts you still do yourself and why, and you read what the agent produced closely wherever it touches data, money or auth.
• You've coached peers, not only juniors, and you can point to a specific skill someone has now because of you.
• You've driven a change in how a team works and confirmed with a metric that it landed.
• You're an extremely strong communicator. You get to the point, you can hold a constructive disagreement without it getting personal, and feedback is something you go looking for rather than something you survive.
• You have judgment about what not to build. The fastest way to ship is to cut the right thing, and you'll defend that call.
• You're proactive to the point of being slightly annoying about it. You'd rather fix it and tell people afterwards than raise it and wait.

Nice to have

• Experience at a fast growing SaaS or B2B product company.
• Running evals, watching inference cost, or dealing with model failure modes like hallucination in production.
• Experience being the technical counterpart for a PM or EM on a roadmap, not just on a sprint.

What this role is not

• Not a role where improvements wait for a one on one. If you need to be asked, this isn't it.
• Not a role where seniority means scope of tickets. It means scope of influence.
• Not a role where you can be excellent alone. If the team isn't better a quarter after you join, we both got it wrong.
