MR MARVIS is an Amsterdam-based menswear brand, dedicated to creating the perfect shorts, trousers and tops. As a Certified B Corporation, we’re proud to be part of a community of companies working together for change, and taking part in collective action to advocate for a shared goal of a global economy that benefits people and the planet.
Our Data & Engineering team works across the full e-commerce stack: storefront, content, search, integrations, operations, and the internal platform capabilities that keep the business moving.
We're looking for a Senior Full Stack Engineer to join our Data & Engineering team and help shape the next phase of our digital platform.
The Role
This is a senior, hands‑on role that spans three connected parts of our stack:
- The commerce Front End. Our headless storefront — TypeScript, Next.js and React on Vercel, with Shopify, Sanity and Algolia behind it — serving ten locales across Europe. Real challenges here: multi-market pricing and inventory, rendering and caching performance at scale, and experimentation.
- Durable integrations. We're replacing a low-code iPaaS with integration workflows we own: TypeScript durable jobs, event‑driven messaging, and the reliability primitives that go with them — idempotency, retries, replay, dead‑lettering, and actually knowing when something failed. This covers the flows the business runs on: products, orders, inventory, returns, refunds and fulfilment, across Shopify, our ERP (Odoo) and our 3PL.
- Working with the data platform. Our data team runs a Python and GCP stack — BigQuery, dbt, Dagster, dlt, Airbyte. You won't own it, but you'll work closely with it: the same operational entities flow through both worlds, and the contracts between them are where a lot of value and a lot of breakage live.
- You’ll work closely with product, design, data, operations and our Lead Engineer, and co‑own critical technical domains as we grow.
What you’ll do
- Build and improve our headless commerce storefront in Next.js, React and TypeScript, integrated with Shopify, Sanity and Algolia.
- Design and build our in‑house integration platform — durable, observable TypeScript workflows on GCP, replacing dependency‑heavy external tooling with systems we can reason about, test and debug.
- Make business‑critical flows resilient: product data, orders, inventory, returns and fulfilment integrations across Shopify, Odoo and our 3PL.
- Own architectural decisions and technical delivery across key parts of the platform, and write them down — we use architecture docs and decision records.
- Partner with the data team on the contracts between operational systems and the warehouse, so analytics and operations agree on what happened.
- Raise the floor on engineering practice: testing, observability, code quality, documentation and incident prevention.
- Mentor mid‑level and junior engineers through pairing, review and coaching.
- Work with product owners and stakeholders to balance speed, quality and business impact.
What we’re looking for
- Significant experience as a full stack engineer, ideally in a senior or lead capacity.
- Strong TypeScript, React and Next.js, and a real grasp of modern web application architecture, rendering strategies, caching, and where the performance costs actually are.
- Solid backend and distributed‑systems instincts: APIs, event‑driven messaging, background jobs, retries and idempotency, and integration patterns between systems you don't control.
- Comfortable in a cloud environment, we're serverless‑first on Vercel and GCP (Cloud Run), containerised where it makes sense.
- Experience with commerce, ERP, fulfilment, content or search systems is a strong plus. Having felt the pain of a bad integration is worth more than having read about the pattern.
- Comfort reading a dbt model or a SQL query when you need to trace something is welcome. Deep data engineering experience is not required — the data team owns that.
- A pragmatic mindset: you know when to move fast, when to simplify, and when to invest in foundations.
- Strong communication, and the ability to explain trade‑offs to non‑technical stakeholders.
- A coaching mindset, curiosity, accountability and strong product sense.
Our tech environment
You don't need experience with all of this, but you should be excited to work across it:
- Storefront: TypeScript, Next.js, React, Vercel, Cloudflare; pnpm/Turborepo monorepo
- Commerce & content: Shopify (headless, Markets across 10 locales), Sanity, Algolia
- Integrations & jobs: Durable TypeScript workflows, event‑driven messaging, GCP Cloud Run, Odoo, 3PL and payment integrations
- Data platform (our data team): BigQuery, dbt, Dagster, dlt, Airbyte
- Cross‑cutting: OpenTelemetry and Grafana, feature flags and experimentation, Vitest and Playwright, modern CI/CD
