Job summary

ING zoekt een Senior Frontend Engineer om de AI-gedreven frontend-strategie te definiëren en op te schalen binnen Retail Bank & Technology. Je sluit aan bij de squad SuperHighway binnen Frontend Foundation Web en werkt aan de kernbibliotheken, de Unified Design System en deployment-as-code in een micro-frontend-architectuur.

Je levert een bijdrage aan een veilige, productieve werkomgeving, draagt bij aan roadmaps en communicatie in het Engels, met een startdatum zo vroeg mogelijk vanaf 1

Qualifications

• 10+ jaren ervaring in ontwikkeling/software engineering.
• Sterke JavaScript-vaardigheden en kennis van hoe JS werkt onder de motorkap.
• Affiniteit met AI en interesse in AI-powered producten.
• Ervaring met NodeJS-ecosysteem en front-end tooling.
• Bekend met WebComponents en moderne front-end bouwprocessen.
• Kennis van CI/CD, bij voorkeur Azure DevOps.

Responsibilities

• Definiëren en uitrollen van de AI-gedreven frontend-strategie.

Wat ga je doen?

For ING, we're looking for an experienced Senior Frontend Engineer to help define and scale ING's AI-driven frontend strategy. You'll join Retail Bank & Technology, within the "One Experience" product area, which contributes to the Touchpoint Platform and owns the Unified Design System, Front-end Foundation Web, and Content Management as a Service.

You'll join SuperHighway, a tight-knit squad of six engineers within ING's Frontend Foundation Web domain. The team is building a sustainable, AI-powered frontend development flow, and designs, maintains, and supports several core web libraries and components (including a custom router and mock server kit) used across ING's frontend ecosystem. The team also owns and operates the Global Frontend Pipelines, built as deployment-as-code solutions within a Micro-Frontend architecture.

As a Senior Software Engineer, you'll contribute to a safe and productive working environment, help others succeed, and actively grow your own skills and knowledge of new technologies. You'll contribute to a realistic roadmap for your squad, become a Blue Security Champion for your area, and help improve the Frontend Architecture at Touchpoint.

The team consists of engineers distributed across ING, with centralized project management. ING experience is not required but is a plus. The focus is on expert-level frontend/web components skills, with AI experience as a key secondary focus. The project runs for 6 months with 3 FTE engineers and 2 part-time engineers, with a high (90%) chance of extension. Start date is as soon as possible, from 1 November 2026.

Wat wij vragen

• 10+ years' experience in development/software engineering, preferably within agile organisations
• Strong JavaScript skills, with a solid understanding of how JavaScript works under the hood
• Enthusiastic about AI and motivated to help build AI-powered products and solutions
• Experience with the NodeJS ecosystem, staying up to date with the latest JavaScript releases and features
• Familiarity with the WebComponents meta-specification
• Experience with frontend build tooling, such as Webpack and Rollup
• Experience with CI/CD tooling, preferably Azure DevOps
• Knowledge of CDN deployments, NFM Feeds, release procedures, risk evaluation and security
• Desirable design patterns: Single Page Applications, Server-Side Rendering / Static Site Generation (NextJS)
• Well versed in TDD, BDD, and testing tools such as Mocha, Chai, Selenium, Karma
• Strong technical communication skills, comfortable engaging with customers
• Excellent English verbal and written communication skills
• Available as a freelance/independent professional, fixed employment contracts won't fit this start date
