Job summary

Scaled Autonomy in Delft, Netherlands, is seeking a Senior Embedded Software Engineer to lead the embedded development of our interceptor autonomy stack, covering detection, tracking, guidance, navigation, & control. You will shape the roadmap with the founders and push performance from commodity hardware.

You will write and test code across the real-time onboard stack, design architecture, and mentor engineers while collaborating with CV, GNC, AI, electronics, and flight‑test teams to deliver

Qualifications

• Five+ years in embedded or real-time software, or equivalent senior capability.
• Excellent Embedded C and strong Modern C++ experience.
• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree or equivalent experience.
• Strong understanding of microcontrollers, interrupts, concurrency, memory, timing, and RTOS behavior.
• Experience with embedded Linux, cross‑compilation, debugging and deployment to targets.
• Experience debugging hardware via interfaces and tools (SWD, oscilloscope, logic analyzers).
• Experience with automated testing, CI, version control, and controlled releases.
• Willingness to work on-site and support flight testing.

Responsibilities

• Own and evolve embedded software architecture across flight controller and companion computer.
• Develop and review production‑quality embedded C and modern C++.
• Build robust interfaces between flight‑control software, sensors, cameras, comms, and autonomy components.
• Develop and integrate low‑level drivers, hardware interfaces, system services, and health‑monitoring functionality.
• Diagnose hardware‑software problems using logs, debuggers and flight data.
• Optimize for deterministic timing, latency, memory use, compute constraints, and reliability.
• Define testing from developer workstation through bench, HIL, and flight validation.
• Improve build, deployment, release, and CI workflows for embedded systems.
• Turn flight‑test findings into root‑cause analyses and durable fixes.
• Establish coding standards and mentor engineers via design discussions and code reviews.
• Collaborate with CV, GNC, AI, electronics, mechanical, and flight‑test teams.
