Job summary

Hamilton Barnes Associates Limited is seeking a senior electrical engineering leader to define design strategy for AI infrastructure across international hyperscale data centres. You will provide technical leadership on site acquisition, due diligence, and design, shaping electrical standards for global campuses.

This role involves leading end-to-end design reviews, overseeing MV/LV distribution, substations, UPS, generators, and critical power, and collaborating with engineering, acquisitions

Qualifications

  • Extensive experience designing electrical systems for hyperscale or large-scale data centers.
  • Strong background in mission-critical environments, ideally supporting global infrastructure programs.
  • Experience assessing technical feasibility of new sites or early-stage data center development projects.

Responsibilities

  • Own end-to-end electrical facilities design strategy across new hyperscale builds and major campus expansions.
  • Travel regularly across EMEA and internationally to assess prospective data center sites with Site Acquisition and Technical Due Diligence teams.
  • Evaluate site electrical infrastructure, identify technical risks, constraints and feasibility before land or capacity is acquired.
  • Define and standardise electrical design principles across multiple global regions.
  • Lead design reviews, ensuring scalability, efficiency and operational resilience.
  • Provide technical oversight across substations, MV/LV distribution, UPS, generators and critical power infrastructure.
  • Act as the senior technical authority for complex design decisions and engineering trade-offs.
  • Collaborate with design consultants, utilities, vendors, construction and operations teams throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Support commissioning strategy and ensure a seamless transition from construction into live operations.
  • Drive long term capacity planning, AI-ready power architecture and design innovation across the global portfolio.

You'll provide technical leadership across site acquisition, technical due diligence, design, and construction, shaping electrical standards for hyperscale campuses while working closely with executive stakeholders, construction teams, and operations leaders to support large-scale international expansion.

Required Skills/Qualifications:

  • Extensive experience designing electrical systems for hyperscale or large scale data centers
  • Strong background within mission critical environments, ideally supporting global infrastructure programmes
  • Experience assessing technical feasibility of new sites or supporting early stage data center development projects
  • Deep understanding of substations, MV/LV distribution, UPS, generators and critical electrical infrastructure
  • Experience influencing designs from concept through construction and commissioning
  • Comfortable travelling regularly across Europe with occasional wider international travel
  • Confident reviewing and challenging consultant and vendor designs at a senior level
  • Strong stakeholder management skills with experience working across engineering, acquisitions and executive leadership teams

Salary:
