Job summary

Elsevier is seeking a Senior Data Scientist to push the frontier of AI for science, supporting research intelligence, knowledge discovery, and editorial workflows. You will work across model lifecycles, applying ML, NLP, LLMs, and RAG in multilingual scientific content, datasets, and ontologies.

The role demands strong technical judgment, collaboration with engineering, product, and domain experts, and a focus on reliable, scalable AI products that advance science and health outcomes.

Qualifications

• Significant experience applying ML/AI/NLP to production-scale systems.
• Strong Python proficiency and production-grade coding experience.
• Experience with LLMs, semantic search, retrieval-augmented generation (RAG).
• Ability to design robust evaluation and monitoring for AI systems.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and deploy AI/ML/NLP solutions for scientific discovery and editorial workflows.
• Build embeddings, knowledge graphs, and retrieval pipelines for knowledge discovery.
• Establish evaluation, experimentation, and monitoring for relevance, grounding, and reliability.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to productionise AI solutions and mentor peers.
