Job summary

Harnham, a well-established retailer, seeks a Senior Data Engineer to design, build and optimise scalable data solutions across the business from Amsterdam. This role shapes a modern data platform powering data-driven decisions for customer and commercial outcomes.

You'll work with Data Analysts, Data Scientists and product teams, implement cloud data warehouses on Azure/AWS/GCP, develop robust ETL/ELT pipelines, ensure data quality and governance, and mentor colleagues within the data function.

Qualifications

• Extensive commercial experience as a Data Engineer or Senior Data Engineer.
• Strong SQL and Python expertise.
• Experience with cloud data platforms (Azure, AWS, or GCP) and data warehousing.

Responsibilities

• Designing and developing robust data pipelines for batch and real-time data processing.
• Building and maintaining cloud data platforms and data warehouses.
• Supporting analytics, reporting, and ML initiatives.

The Role

As a Senior Data Engineer, you will help design, build, and optimise scalable data solutions across the business.

Responsibilities include:

• Designing and developing robust data pipelines for batch and real-time data processing
• Building and maintaining cloud-based data platforms and data warehouses
• Supporting the delivery of analytics, reporting, and machine learning initiatives
• Improving data quality, governance, monitoring, and observability across the platform
• Collaborating with Data Analysts, Data Scientists, Product teams, and business stakeholders
• Driving best practice in data engineering, architecture, and platform performance
• Contributing to technical strategy and mentoring colleagues within the data team
• Identifying opportunities to improve efficiency through automation and scalable engineering solutions

Your Skills & Experience

• Strong commercial experience as a Data Engineer or Senior Data Engineer
• Advanced SQL skills and strong capability in Python
• Experience building and maintaining modern cloud data platforms, ideally on Azure, AWS, or GCP
• Expertise in data modelling, ETL/ELT development, and data warehousing concepts
• Experience with orchestration and workflow tools such as Airflow or similar technologies
• Knowledge of modern data architecture principles and scalable distributed systems
• Experience working with large, complex datasets in a commercial environment
• Strong stakeholder management and communication skills
• Ability to work collaboratively across technical and non-technical teams
• Passion for data, continuous improvement, and delivering business value
