Job summary

Valcon in the Netherlands is seeking a Senior Data Engineer who designs and optimizes data infrastructure, leading projects from needs translation to delivered solutions.

You will build ETL/ELT pipelines, collaborate with data scientists and analysts, and apply DevOps and CI/CD to keep data products reliable and scalable.

A strong background in Python/SQL or Scala, Databricks or Snowflake, and cloud platforms (Azure/AWS/GCP) is required, plus fluency in Dutch and English.

Qualifications

• A completed technical college or university education.
• 3+ years of experience in data engineering, with project leadership preferred.
• Proficiency in Python, SQL or Scala and Apache Spark knowledge.
• Experience building data pipelines and platforms like Databricks or Snowflake.
• Cloud experience with Azure, AWS or Google Cloud and SQL/NoSQL databases.
• Interest in new tech such as DBT, Fivetran, Dagster and open source tools.
• Nice to have familiarity with streaming frameworks like Kafka and data governance.
• Excellent Dutch and English communication.

What will you do?

In this role, you will work on designing and optimizing smart data infrastructure. You will be given the space to supervise projects from start to finish, from translating needs to delivering the solution.

• Build together: You develop pipelines and architectures (ETL/ELT) so that data flows efficiently. You will work closely with other data engineers, data scientists, analysts and the business to link technical solutions to organizational goals.

• Innovate and improve: You provide scalable solutions for large amounts of data. With your experience, you apply DevOps and CI/CD principles to make work easier and better. In addition, you take the lead in exploring new tools and techniques.

Experience

• A completed technical college or university education

• At least 3+ years of experience in data engineering, preferably including leading projects.

• Experience with programming languages such as Python, SQL or Scala and frameworks such as Apache Spark.

• Knowledge of building data pipelines and data platforms such as Databricks, Microsoft Fabric or Snowflake.

• Experience with cloud platforms such as Azure, AWS or Google Cloud and databases (SQL/NoSQL).

• You like exploring new and upcoming technologies such as DBT, Fivetran, Clickhouse, Dagster or open source technologies.

• Being familiar with streaming frameworks such as Kafka or data governance frameworks is a bonus.

• You communicate effectively in both Dutch and English.

• Please note: You are currently living in the Netherlands and have a valid working permit.
