Fluence Energy B.V. is seeking a Senior Controls Engineer – Services to lead controls-related activities on Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) projects during the operational phase.

You will drive software/firmware lifecycle management, ensure grid code compliance, perform RCA, and pursue continuous improvement to maximize reliability and customer satisfaction. Join Fluence to collaborate with field engineers and cross-functional teams across Europe, traveling up to 10%.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Automation, Controls Engineering, or a related field.
• Minimum 3 years of experience in controls engineering, software engineering, or automation within power/renewable sectors.
• Experience with design, operation, and maintenance of power generation or energy storage systems.
• Strong understanding of electricity transmission, EMS, grid codes, and grid services applications.
• Experience developing, testing, and validating control algorithms for grid-connected systems.
• Proven ability to resolve complex technical issues and implement corrective actions.

Responsibilities

• Lead and drive the Services team delivering BESS control system requirements per specs and standards.
• Act as primary controls SME for customers, subcontractors, and internal stakeholders.
• Support LTSA execution by ensuring controls compliance and leading grid code testing across EMEA.
• Collaborate with Field Service Engineers and cross-functional teams to troubleshoot complex issues.
• Plan and execute software/firmware upgrades with testing and rollback processes.
• Perform root cause analyses of events and failures and implement preventive actions.
• Drive product improvements using data analysis and technical investigations.
• Manage improvement tickets and coordinate with Software, RMDC, Nispera, and others for resolution.
• Enforce change management and document all control system modifications.
• Maintain documentation of software releases and system configurations during service.
• Identify opportunities to improve processes and service delivery methods.
