Job summary

Oliver James Associates Ltd. is seeking a Senior Backend Engineer to lead the migration of single-tenant apps to a multi-tenant cloud-native backend using Python and FastAPI. You will own end-to-end deliverables, design APIs, and optimize data access on PostgreSQL.

You'll work across Azure-based services, containerized apps with Docker, and CI/CD pipelines in Azure DevOps, ensuring high availability, security, and production readiness while collaborating with stakeholders.

Qualifications

• Strong Python development experience.
• Deep FastAPI expertise is essential.
• Asynchronous programming in production services.
• Experience with SQLAlchemy and PostgreSQL.
• Knowledge of NoSQL is a plus.
• Security and authentication (OAuth/OIDC) awareness.

Responsibilities

• Migrate apps from single-tenant to multi-tenant cloud-native backend.
• Design and build REST APIs and backend features.
• Develop data/configuration migration scripts.
• Optimize PostgreSQL schemas and queries for scale.
• Implement async processing and high-throughput APIs.
• Ensure authentication and security (SSO, OAuth, OIDC, PKCE).
• Containerize with Docker and deploy on Azure Container Apps.
• Maintain CI/CD pipelines in Azure DevOps.
• Ensure production readiness with testing, logging, and observability.
