Job summary

Fairphone is seeking a Senior Software Engineer focused on AOSP and Android to extend hardware lifecycles and shape a more durable mobile OS. You will anchor Android/ vendor stack work, engaging across layers of the Android platform and maintaining security and performance beyond standard vendor support.

You will report to the OS Longevity Tech Lead within the Software Engineering group, collaborating with senior Android/Linux engineers to push upgrades and cross-device code consolidation.

Qualifications

• Degree in computer science, software engineering, or equivalent experience.
• 8+ years of hands-on Android ecosystem experience including system bring-up and upgrades.
• Expert in core Android stacks and ability to architect and implement robust requirements.
• Bonus for expertise in any Android HAL areas (camera, audio, WiFi, Bluetooth).
• Software quality-driven with unit/integration testing and CI workflows.
• Strong open-source collaboration experience is valued.
• Excellent root-cause analysis across hardware/software boundaries.
• Proficiency with shell, Python scripting, and Git; GNU/Linux fluency.
• Excellent English communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Integrate and maintain Android OS on Fairphone devices.
• Reproduce issues, analyze impact, and document findings for colleagues.
• Provide technical guidance and implement fixes with QA collaboration.
• Drive continuous software quality improvements.
