Job description

Patagonia is an outdoor apparel company founded in 1973. At a time when all life on earth is under threat of extinction, we aim to use the resources we have—our business, our investments, our voice and our imagination—to influence changes needed to protect our planet. A registered B Corporation and founding member of 1% for the Planet, Patagonia is recognised internationally for its commitment to product quality and environmental activism, contributing over $145 million in grants and in‑kind donations to thousands of grassroots environmental groups around the world.

Your role:

At Patagonia, we’re in business to save our home planet. The Retail Store Manager leads daily store operations, drives commercial performance, fosters a purpose‑driven, inclusive team culture, and actively builds strong connections within the local community. This role ensures exceptional customer experience by aligning people, processes, and business goals with Patagonia’s values. As a senior leader, the Store Manager also supports the onboarding of new managers, contributes to strategic projects, and pilots’ initiatives that shape the future of our retail experience.

  • Team Management: Managing a team of customer‑facing employees by assigning responsibilities, coaching, giving feedback, monitoring performance, and encouraging teamwork and customer‑first behaviour aligned with Patagonia values in daily operations.
  • Commercial Execution: Drive seasonal sales targets by translating commercial strategy into in‑store actions and managing KPIs through consistent execution. Identifie performance gaps, prioritize high‑impact activities, and inspire the team to achieve commercial goals—always guided by Patagonia’s values and commitment to responsible business practices. Lead the operations of a high‑volume store, ensuring commercial objectives and brand standards are consistently achieved while managing a significant turnover.
  • Environmental Engagement & Community Impact: Leads the store’s community agenda in close collaboration with the Marketing and Enviro team. Champions Patagonia’s commitment to environmental responsibility by organizing and hosting community‑focused events, driving local activism and fostering partnerships with grassroots NGOs. Strengthens relationships with local organizations and core sports community groups to amplify impact at the local level.
  • Operational Oversight: Ensure the store runs smoothly by managing schedules and executing daily routines such as opening procedures and closing tasks in line with retail standards.
  • Policy & Compliance: Uphold internal procedures, including cash handling, returns, and inventory oversight, while ensuring compliance with labour laws, fire regulations, and health & safety standards in areas such as scheduling, break management, and working hours. Identify compliance risks and promote proper behaviour through clear communication and accountability to maintain a safe and compliant environment.
  • Budget Oversight: Manages the store’s capital expense budget, including payroll, supplies, and repair costs. Monitors spend against targets and adjust plans in collaboration with the District Manager to ensure fiscal responsibility.
  • Merchandising & Brand Presentation: Collaborates with marketing and merchandising teams to plan and execute in‑store campaigns, seasonal promotions, and product storytelling that drive sales and elevate the customer experience. Maintains high visual and merchandising standards that reflect the Patagonia’s values.
What we’re looking for:

  • Excellent team management skills are a must, with demonstrated ability to build effective teams, coach and motivate employees.

  • Full understanding of commercial acumen and sales performance levers by translating targets into in‑store actions using data and KPIs.
  • Full expertise in making timely decisions under operational pressure to make timely decisions on customer issues, staffing adjustments, and task distribution within company guidelines to maintain workflow and a positive customer experience.
  • Good understanding of local labour law awareness and compliance responsibilities.
  • Full understanding of team management and communication skills to manage a store team through coaching, task ownership, performance discussions, and shared goal setting.
  • Good understanding of conflict resolution to manage and de‑escalate team or customer situations in a constructive, solution‑oriented way.
