The role combines software engineering, database development, reporting, ETL processing, and legacy modernization into contemporary stacks. Excellent collaboration in an international setting is required.

Qualifications

• Degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, or related field.
• Minimum 5 years hands-on software development experience.
• At least 5 years with SQL Server including T-SQL, stored procedures, SSIS.
• 6+ years post-degree experience or 7+ years with shorter degrees.

Responsibilities

• Develop and maintain web applications and automation tools with Python.
• Design and enhance VBA solutions in Access and Excel.

Location: The Hague, Netherlands (mainly onsite with limited remote work options)

Contract Type: Freelance / Contract

Start Date: October 2026 (latest onboarding by December 2026)

Duration: Initial 8-month engagement (160 working days) with strong potential for long-term extensions up to 3 years

About the Opportunity

We are looking for an experienced Python Developer with strong VBA and database development expertise to join a major international technology environment. The successful consultant will contribute to the enhancement, modernization, and support of business-critical applications used across multiple operational teams and international stakeholders.

This role combines software engineering, database development, reporting, ETL processing, and the modernization of legacy solutions into contemporary technology stacks.

What You'll Be Doing

• Developing and maintaining web applications and automation tools using Python
• Designing, improving, and supporting complex VBA solutions in Microsoft Access and Excel
• Contributing to the migration of legacy Access applications towards SQL Server and modern architectures
• Building and maintaining ETL processes for large and complex datasets
• Creating reporting solutions and interactive dashboards using Power BI
• Collaborating with development and infrastructure teams to deploy new functionality
• Preparing and maintaining technical and operational documentation
• Applying secure coding practices and implementing auditing and logging mechanisms

What We're Looking For

Education & Professional Experience

• Degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, or a related field
• Minimum 5 years of hands‑on software development experience
• At least 5 years of experience with Microsoft SQL Server, including:
• T-SQL
• Stored procedures
• SSIS
• Performance tuning and optimization
• A minimum of:
• 6 years of professional experience after a 4-year university degree, or
• 7 years after a 3-year university degree

Required Technical Skills

• Python development, automation, and web-based solutions
• VBA development within Microsoft Access and Excel
• Technical documentation and solution documentation
• Power BI, including DAX, dashboards, and reporting
• ETL technologies and tools, including SSIS, Power Query, and Neo4j utilities
• Microsoft SQL Server development and optimization
• Git or similar version control platforms
• OAuth 2.0 and OpenID Connect authentication concepts
• Azure DevOps (backlog management, CI/CD pipelines, source control)
• Docker containerization

Nice to Have

• Linux administration and shell scripting
• Elasticsearch

Language Requirements

• English language proficiency at B2 level or higher
• Ability to communicate effectively with both technical and business stakeholders
• Full-time assignment (40 hours per week)
• Initial allocation of 160 working days
• Extension options based on project demands and performance

Security Clearance / Compliance

• Valid Certificate of Good Conduct issued within three months before the start date
