Job description

Location: Hybrid. Candidates must be able to work from one of our offices in Delft, Netherlands; Ghent, Belgium; or Guildford, United Kingdom.

At LanzaTech, we’re turning waste carbon into new beginnings. Using our proprietary bio-fermentation technology, we transform industrial emissions, carbon dioxide, and gasified waste into ethanol—a building block for a wide range of sustainable products, including Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) and other critical chemical derivatives. With six commercial facilities already in operation and more on the way, we’re scaling fast to meet the world’s growing demand for fuels and materials. Our technology helps industrial sectors by unlocking value from emissions that would otherwise go to waste. Together with our partners, we’re building a circular carbon economy—where carbon is continuously reused, not released.

The Project Engineer supports the execution of large capital projects (€100M+) across the project development lifecycle—from early development support through design, permitting, and financial close. This role serves as a key technical and coordination resource, bridging engineering, project management, permitting, and external partners to ensure project deliverables are completed safely, efficiently, and in alignment with scope, schedule, and budget objectives. The position contributes to technical reviews, execution planning, permitting coordination, project stewardship, and continuous improvement of project delivery practices. The ideal candidate will have a strong process engineering background and use their technical knowledge to be an effective contributor.

Key Responsibilities & Duties
Project Execution & Coordination
  • Support Program Manager and Project Directors in execution of capital projects
  • Coordinate day-to-day project activities across engineering, permitting, procurement, construction, and external stakeholders.
  • Track project scope, action items, and deliverables and escalate risks as needed.
  • Maintain project risk registers and coordinate with internal team to document project risks
  • Assist in maintaining schedules, budgets, and project reporting.
  • Coordinate with permitting consultants and support preparation of permitting strategies.
  • Assist in preparing, reviewing, and compiling permitting information.
  • Track permitting requirements, timelines, and approvals to support overall project execution.
Technical Support & Engineering Coordination
  • Coordinate across engineering disciplines and external partners including FEED/EPC contractors and vendors.
  • Provide general technical support and assist with design reviews.
  • Maintain action and comment registers to ensure robust engineering design.
Project Controls & Documentation
  • Establish and maintain project infrastructure including document control systems.
  • Support cost tracking, reporting, and contractor performance monitoring.
  • Support preparation of development updates and materials for senior management and governance forums.
  • Ensure compliance with internal procedures, controls, and reporting requirements.
Basic Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering.
  • Minimum 5 years of professional experience, with specific permitting coordination experience
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
Work Conditions
  • Candidates must be able to work from/travel to our offices in Delft, Netherlands; Ghent, Belgium; and Guildford, United Kingdom.
  • Able to work in a office and/or remote environment within the United Kingdom/Europe.
  • Proficiency with MS Office and project coordination software tools.
  • Travel up to approximately 30% within the United Kingdom and Europe and internationally to support project development, engineering, planning, and permitting activities.

LanzaTech is pioneering the use of gas fermentation technology to recycle waste carbon emissions into ethanol, which can then be converted into Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) through an Alcohol-to-Jet (ATJ) process. With an exciting pipeline of commercial-scale capital projects advancing across Europe, this is a unique opportunity to contribute to first-of‑kind industrial projects that are shaping the future of sustainable aviation and the circular carbon economy.

At LanzaTech, you’ll join a team grounded in zero harm, collaboration, inclusion, and continuous learning. We value people who lift others up, take ownership, find solution, and stay curious as we work together to deliver meaningful results. If you are motivated by purpose, teamwork, and the opportunity to make a real contribution, you will feel at home here.
