Job summary

Aquabattery is hiring a Process Operations Engineer to operate and maintain field pilots and in-house lab systems across the Netherlands, including Delft. You will design tests for multi-stack pilot setups and analyze results to improve battery performance.

In this hands-on role you will bridge lab-scale R&D, battery management software and product development while documenting procedures, optimizing test plans, and ensuring safe, reliable operations with occasional travel.

Qualifications

• MSc or BSc in chemical/process engineering.
• 2+ years in a process, pilot plant, R&D or operations role.
• Experience designing and executing experiments.
• Hands-on work with industrial systems (pumps, valves, filters, piping, sensors).
• Strong data analysis; Python or Matlab is a strong plus.
• Understanding of process control (loops, setpoints, PLC-based systems).
• Ability to read P&ID/Process Flow Diagrams.
• Initiative: propose and drive tests rather than wait for instructions.
• Clear technical writing and communication in English.
• Valid category B driver’s license (own transport is a plus).

Responsibilities

• Define test protocols for multi-stack systems with the Process Control, Stack and System Engineering teams.
• Turn development targets into test plans, defining learnings, measures and goals.
• Link field experiments with lab work and validate results at scale.
• Prioritise live-asset schedules across experiments and maintenance.
• Coordinate planned work with lab, stack, electrical and software teams and partners.
• Operate and monitor pilot battery systems in the field and in-house labs.
• Perform preventive and corrective maintenance and first-line troubleshooting.
• Support commissioning and start-up of new systems and test setups.
• Maintain logs, spare parts and SOPs for operations and safety.
