Delft University of Technology's Structural Mechanics group invites a postdoctoral researcher to design a new large-scale experimental testing procedure for masonry quay-wall superstructures under settlement and lateral out-of-plane loading up to failure.

This project CANALS, funded by the Dutch science foundation, interfaces with related initiatives and offers opportunities to collaborate with top researchers and supervise PhD students within a broader team.

Qualifications

• PhD in civil engineering or related field.
• Experience with experimental solid mechanics and large-scale testing.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
• Ability to lead research tasks and work in a team.
• Experience with computational modelling of structures, especially nonlinear FE analysis.

Responsibilities

• Design a new large-scale experimental testing procedure for masonry quay-wall superstructures under settlement and lateral out-of-plane loading to failure.
• Perform preliminary numerical studies to identify representative loading scenarios.
• Design and verify a novel large-scale set-up through first trial tests.
• Collaborate within a team and supervise PhD students and researchers.
