Job summary

TU Delft is seeking a postdoctoral researcher to design a first-of-its-kind large-scale experimental campaign on historic masonry quay walls and help safeguard the future of Dutch canal cities.

The role includes developing the testing procedure for settlement and lateral out-of-plane loading, performing a preliminary numerical study, and verifying the setup through initial trials within the CANALS project led by Dr Rita Esposito and Dr Francesco Messali.

Qualifications

• PhD in civil engineering or related field is required.
• Experience in experimental solid mechanics and large-scale testing design is preferred.
• Strong interpersonal and leadership skills with the ability to supervise others.
• Excellent verbal and written communication; able to present complex results clearly.

Responsibilities

• Design a new large-scale experimental testing procedure for masonry quay walls.
• Conduct a preliminary numerical study to identify representative loading scenarios.
• Verify the experimental set-up via initial trial tests and coordinate with project partners.
