Job summary

The University of Amsterdam invites applications for a Postdoctoral position in Engineering Microbiome-Immune-Pathogen Interaction in the infant gut. The project joins gut-on-a-chip tech, organoids and microbiome methods to study early immune development and pathogen interactions.

The successful candidate will establish anaerobic gut-microbiome-on-a-chip platforms, co-culture organoid-derived epithelium with immune cells, and collaborate across a multidisciplinary team at Amsterdam UMC.

Qualifications

  • PhD in Biomedical Engineering or closely related field.
  • Hands-on experience with bioengineering, biomaterials, organoids or microfluidic systems.
  • Experience with anaerobic microbial cultivation and characterization.
  • Fluent English with first-author publication evidence.

Responsibilities

  • Establish a gut-microbiome-on-a-chip platform for infant gut studies.
  • Design and fabricate mesofluidic gut models for experiments.
  • Co-culture organoid epithelium with immune cells and SynComs.
  • Coordinate collaboration across engineers, microbiologists and translational researchers.
  • Present findings at conferences and publish in peer-reviewed journals.
