Job summary

The National Institute for Public Health and the Environment (RIVM) in the Netherlands is hosting a four-year MSCA PhD position within the DETECTIVE network. You will work on AI-assisted virology workflows, integrate NGS and serology data, and contribute to a centralized biobank, under supervision of RIVM and Utrecht University.

You will be enrolled as a PhD candidate and will have opportunities for secondments and interdisciplinary training across Europe.

Qualifications

• Master’s degree in Biomedical Sciences, Molecular Biology or closely related field.

Responsibilities

• Develop AI-based virus culture workflows and image-analysis to detect cytopathic effects.
• Perform lab experiments including cell culture, virus isolation, and NGS library preparation.
• Integrate sequencing and serological data to link genotype, phenotype and antigenic characteristics of virus isolates.
• Contribute to building and maintaining a central biobank of fully characterised virus isolates and associated metadata.
• Publish results in scientific journals and present at conferences.
