Job summary

Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam seeks a doctoral researcher to study how generative AI reshapes learning, expertise and relationships at work. The project is a four-year MSCA Doctoral Network (EMANAIRE) held partly at VU Amsterdam, with international collaborations and a six-month secondment.

You will conduct ethnographic fieldwork, interview and observe staff, and contribute to joint training and seminars across Europe. Strong writing, reading and presentation skills are essential.

Qualifications

• This is a qualitative, ethnographic PhD project focusing on learning and expertise.
• Exceptional grades in a Master's programme with strong writing and thinking.
• Not primarily quantitative or experimental; no AI system building.

Responsibilities

• Conduct ethnographic fieldwork including interviews and observations.
• Keep detailed fieldnotes and document findings for the team.
• Share progress and insights with the EMANAIRE network.
• Engage with organisations and participants in diverse contexts.
