Job summary

Delft University of Technology invites applications for a PhD position in hydraulic engineering focused on impact dynamics on structures during extreme water events. You will conduct advanced large-scale experiments at the dam-break facility and instrumented building models, linking hydraulic loads to structural responses.

Qualifications

  • MSc in Civil (Hydraulic) Engineering or closely related field.
  • Experience with data processing, signal analysis and programming (Python/Matlab).
  • Ability to work independently and in a multidisciplinary team.
  • Fluent in English (oral and written).

Responsibilities

  • Design and perform large-scale dam-break and building-model experiments capturing loads and pressures.
  • Combine experiments with numerical simulations (CFD-OpenFOAM, OpenSees) for coupled water-structure loads.
  • Contribute to knowledge transfer and publish findings within a multidisciplinary team.
