Job summary

TU Delft's Department of Hydraulic Engineering invites applications for a PhD position on the impact of extreme water events on structures. You will perform large-scale experiments using the dam-break facility and instrumented building models to capture loads and pressures on structural elements.

You will integrate experiments with CFD-OpenFOAM and OpenSees simulations, establishing links between hydraulic loads and structural response, and collaborate with international partners.

Qualifications

  • MSc in Civil (Hydraulic) Engineering, Civil (Structural) Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or related field.
  • Experience in data processing, signal analysis, and programming (Python/Matlab).
  • Ability to work independently and in multidisciplinary teams.
  • Fluent in English (oral and written).

Responsibilities

  • Design and perform advanced large-scale experiments with dam-break facilities and instrumented building models.
  • Link unsteady hydraulic loads to the structure's response.
  • Integrate experiments with numerical simulations (CFD-OpenFOAM, OpenSees).
  • Collaborate with international academic and industrial partners.
