Job summary

Delft University of Technology (TU Delft) invites applications for a PhD position within the NWO-VIDI project 'Not-Just-Water' to investigate how extreme water events affect structures. You will link unsteady hydraulic loads to structural response using dam-break facilities and instrumented models, bridging hydraulic and structural engineering.

You will perform advanced experiments, couple results with CFD and structural simulations, and contribute to safer, optimized infrastructure.

Qualifications

  • MSc in Civil (Hydraulic) Engineering or related discipline.
  • Experience with data processing, signal analysis and programming.

Responsibilities

  • Design and perform large-scale experiments using dam-break facility and instrumented building models.
  • Integrate experiments with numerical simulations (CFD/OpenFOAM, OpenSees).
  • Explore impact dynamics and water-structure interaction during extreme events.
