Job summary

Maastricht University seeks a PhD candidate to develop supramolecular hydrogels for biomaterials and tissue engineering. You will synthesize and characterize polymers, linking molecular design to material properties and biomedical applications.

The role is within the BioMatt group of MERLN/IBE, offering a 4-year, fully funded PhD position with international collaboration and access to state-of-the-art facilities.

Qualifications

  • MSc or equivalent in Organic/Polymer Chemistry, Materials Science, Chemical Engineering, or related field.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of multi-step synthesis, purification techniques, and lab record keeping.
  • Experience with polymer and small-molecule characterization methods (NMR, GPC, rheology).
  • Interest in applying supramolecular and polymer chemistry to bioengineering and soft matter.
  • Excellent command of scientific English (CEFR level C1).
  • Availability to start on short notice is desirable.

Responsibilities

  • Develop new synthetic routes for supramolecular polymers.
  • Characterize structure-property relationships using advanced techniques.
  • Engineer dynamic hydrogel systems with tailorable properties.
  • Design hydrogels for injectable, 3D printable, and patternable materials.
