Job summary

Maastricht University seeks a PhD Candidate to develop supramolecular polymeric biomaterials for dynamic and responsive hydrogels and bioinks. You will design, synthesize, and characterize polymers, linking molecular design to material properties for biomedically relevant applications.

The project is hosted by the BioMatt group within MERLN’s IBE department, offering an international, interdisciplinary environment with access to state-of-the-art facilities and translational research

Qualifications

  • MSc in Organic/Polymer Chemistry, Materials Science, Chemical Engineering or related field.
  • Experience with multi-step synthesis, purification techniques and lab records.
  • Experience with polymer and small-molecule characterization methods (NMR, GPC, rheology, mechanical testing).
  • Interest in bioengineering applications and biomaterials; English proficiency (CEFR C1).

Responsibilities

  • Develop new synthetic routes for supramolecular polymers.
  • Characterize structure-property relationships of polymers.
  • Engineer dynamic hydrogel systems with tailorable properties.
  • Design hydrogels/formulations for injectable and 3D-printable materials; contribute to tissue engineering applications.
