Job summary

The University of Amsterdam invites a PhD candidate to investigate glutamatergic synapses and memory resilience in aging and Alzheimer's disease, within the Memory and Plasticity team at SILS. The project combines viral tools, electrophysiology, chemogenetics, and behavioral approaches; collaboration with Kessels and Lucassen groups; 4-year duration with teaching duties.

The PhD candidate will work with preclinical rodent models to advance understanding of memory processes and brain plasticity,

Qualifications

  • Experience with learning and memory research.
  • MSc degree in Neuroscience or related field.
  • Experience with animal experiments.
  • Experience with behavioral and/or neurobiological techniques.
  • Good analytical, writing and presenting skills.
  • Fluent in English with willingness to learn Dutch.

Responsibilities

  • Complete and defend a PhD thesis within four years.
  • Design experiments, perform experiments and analyse results.
  • Lead in writing manuscripts.
  • Present results at (inter)national scientific meetings.
  • Participate in the Faculty PhD training programme; assist teaching of undergraduates and master students.
