Job summary

Leiden University Centre for Linguistics (LUCL) invites applications for a fully funded PhD position within the NWO project “The Morphicon: A new gateway to morphological knowledge.” The PhD will work on a morphological constructicon for Dutch, joining a trio of researchers including the PI and a Postdoc.

The role includes transforming resources into a digital network and developing tools for classification and annotation.

Qualifications

Master's degree in linguistics completed before start date.
Native or near-native proficiency of Dutch with good command of academic English.
Excellent research and analytical skills are required.
Experience in computational linguistics is a plus.

Responsibilities

Extract word-formation patterns from descriptive literature and encode them in systematic constructional schemas.
Match complex words to appropriate schemas and annotate for network transformation.
Assist in finding, testing and evaluating digital tools for classification and annotation.
Investigate Dutch morphological constructions quantitatively and qualitatively.
Present joint research results at workshops and conferences.
Publish results and write a PhD thesis within the appointment period.
Assist in teaching activities at bachelor level.
Participate in project knowledge dissemination activities.
Attend project meetings and training sessions.
