Job description

APM Terminals PURPOSE: The QA Engineer is responsible for supporting, coordinating, executing, documenting, and reporting quality assurance and testing activities related to automation products and OT deployments. This includes test preparation, test execution, defect registration and follow-up, retesting, evidence management, and readiness validation across all relevant project and product lifecycle phases. The role helps ensure that automation solutions, OT platforms, control systems, equipment, system interfaces, operational processes, and terminal workflows are verified and validated as an integrated end-to-end solution before being introduced into live operations. Testing may include simulation and emulation, supplier and factory testing, installation verification, commissioning, integration testing, operational testing, user acceptance testing, release validation, go-live support, and post-go-live stabilization. The QA Engineer works closely with the Quality Assurance Lead, Product Managers, Deployment Leads, terminal stakeholders, engineering teams, OT specialists, and suppliers. The role ensures that test results, defects, quality risks, dependencies, and readiness concerns are accurately documented, communicated, and followed through to resolution. Formal business and operational acceptance remains with the appropriate accountable stakeholders. The QA Engineer provides the objective test evidence, defect information, and quality status required to support those decisions.

At APM Terminals, a global leader in port and terminal operations, we enable global trade and drive sustainable growth. What drives us forward is a mindset of always improving - observing how work happens, identifying what creates value, and removing what gets in the way. We constantly look for smarter, simpler, and safer ways of operating. If you thrive in environments where people value learning and are committed to continuously improve daily operations, join us and be a part of our journey.

What We Can Offer: At APM Terminals, we foster a dynamic learning and training culture that empowers our employees to excel. Our commitment to improvement means every team member has the opportunity to develop their skills and advance their careers by continuously refining how we work. Experience a diverse, multinational workplace where your operational insights directly influence how we work. Work on global automation products, OT systems, and terminal deployments that support operational excellence in live terminal environments. Collaborate with international product, engineering, deployment, supplier, and terminal operations teams across multiple locations. Develop expertise in quality assurance, testing, commissioning, release validation, and operational readiness within a complex industrial environment. Contribute to continuous improvement of testing processes, quality standards, tools, reporting, and knowledge sharing across the organisation.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Plan, prepare, coordinate, execute, document, and report testing activities across product development, deployment, commissioning, go-live, and stabilization phases.
  • Review business, operational, technical, interface, and safety requirements to ensure completeness, traceability, and testability.
  • Develop and maintain test conditions, test cases, scripts, test data requirements, acceptance criteria, and requirement‑to‑test traceability.
  • Execute and support a range of testing activities including FAT, SAT, integration, interface, operational scenario, user acceptance, regression, performance, resilience, recovery, and operational readiness testing.
  • Manage defects through identification, classification, tracking, retesting, closure, trend analysis, root cause investigation, and stakeholder escalation where required.
  • Review supplier test documentation, release evidence, defect resolution activities, and quality records to ensure compliance with agreed requirements.
  • Support readiness reviews, quality reporting, go-live assessments, operational handovers, and continuous improvement initiatives across automation and OT deployments.
What We Are Looking For:
  • Continuous improvement mindset: we are looking for someone who brings a thoughtful improvement mindset—curious about how work gets done and motivated to make meaningful, sustainable improvements over time.
  • Leadership expectation: We are looking for people who consistently put customers first, lead by example with respect for people, deliver results with integrity, and drive continuous improvement by solving problems at the root, developing people, and raising standards every day.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Automation Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Software Engineering, Mechatronics, Systems Engineering, Quality Management, or a related discipline, or equivalent relevant professional experience.
  • Professional experience in quality assurance, system testing, product validation, commissioning, industrial automation, operational technology (OT), or other complex industrial technology environments.
  • Strong understanding of automation equipment, control systems, system integrations, software and firmware releases, commissioning activities, and live operational environments.
  • Experience creating and executing structured test cases, managing test evidence, maintaining traceability, and supporting defect management throughout the testing lifecycle.
  • Familiarity with test and defect management tools such as Jira, Xray, or equivalent platforms, combined with strong analytical, documentation, and stakeholder management skills.
  • Ability to communicate quality risks, defects, readiness status, and testing outcomes clearly while working effectively across global, cross-functional, and multicultural teams.
  • English proficiency is required; additional language skills relevant to terminal locations are advantageous.

The QA Engineer plays a critical role in ensuring the quality, reliability, performance, and deployment readiness of automation products and OT systems operating within complex terminal environments. Working closely with Product Managers, Deployment Leads, engineering teams, operational stakeholders, and external suppliers, you will provide the structured testing, defect management, quality evidence, and readiness insights required to support safe and successful deployments.

The role includes participation in office, supplier, project, laboratory, emulation, and live terminal environments and may require international travel and occasional work outside standard office hours during planned testing or deployment windows.
