Job summary

Surge Marine in Valkenburg, Netherlands, seeks a Battery Technician/Engineer to build and maintain high-density battery packs for the Whiplash platform. You will assemble packs, configure BMS, and ensure safety and reliability in harsh marine conditions.

Expect hands-on work with spot welding, soldering, CANbus, and high-voltage practices. The role requires on-site presence in Valkenburg, with field testing at sea and in our workshop.

Qualifications

• Education: Technical degree or vocational training (MBO/HBO or equivalent) in Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics, Automotive technology, or related field.
• Proven hands-on experience building custom battery packs (EVs, drones, marine applications).
• Expertise in safe battery assembly techniques (spot welding, soldering heavy-gauge wire, working with busbars).
• Direct experience wiring and configuring BMS parameters and CANbus communication.
• Clear communication in English; Dutch or NATO-country nationality required.

Responsibilities

• Assemble, configure, and test custom energy storage systems for the fleet.
• Spot-weld cells, wire and configure BMS, ensure safe insulation for marine use.
• Run charge/discharge cycles and capacity tests; debug power delivery issues.
• Ensure packs survive high-speed maneuvers and harsh saltwater environments.
