Job summary

Gisou is seeking a commercially minded Legal Counsel to join its lean legal team in Amsterdam. You will partner with Retail, Marketing, Product Development, Supply Chain, and Finance to negotiate agreements, navigate consumer law, privacy, and IP, and support international expansion.

The role offers exposure to senior stakeholders, broad ownership, and the chance to shape legal strategy for a fast-growing beauty brand.

Qualifications

• Master's degree in Law required.
• Native Dutch speaker with excellent written and spoken English.
• Approximately 5-7 years of relevant legal experience in a leading law firm and/or in-house.
• Prior in-house experience within a commercial, international organisation is preferred.
• Strong experience drafting and negotiating commercial contracts.
• Excellent business judgement and a pragmatic approach to problem solving.
• Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities

• Draft, review and negotiate a wide variety of commercial agreements including retailer, supplier, distribution, manufacturing, marketing, influencer, partnership and service agreements.
• Act as a trusted legal business partner to teams across Retail & Commercial, Marketing, Product Development, Supply Chain, People, Finance and Digital.
• Support strategic growth initiatives, new retailer partnerships and international expansion projects.
• Advise on consumer law, marketing and promotional activities, including campaigns and giveaways.
• Support privacy and data protection matters across the business.
• Assist with employment law matters and day-to-day People-related legal questions.
• Contribute to brand protection and intellectual property initiatives, including trademarks and enforcement.
• Provide practical, risk-based legal advice balancing business objectives with risk.

ABOUT THE ROLE:

As Gisou continues its international growth journey, we are looking for a commercially minded Legal Counsel who enjoys working at the heart of a fast-moving business.

From global retail partnerships and supplier negotiations to marketing campaigns, product launches and international expansion, you will help teams move forward with confidence while protecting what makes Gisou unique.

You will join a lean and ambitious Legal team and report directly to the General Counsel. This is a broad role with significant ownership, exposure to senior stakeholders and the opportunity to help shape the future of Legal at Gisou.

The ideal candidate combines strong legal judgement with a pragmatic, business-focused mindset and enjoys finding solutions in a dynamic international environment.

WHAT YOU'LL DO:

• Draft, review and negotiate a wide variety of commercial agreements, including retailer, supplier, distribution, manufacturing, marketing, influencer, partnership and service agreements.

• Advise on consumer law, marketing and promotional activities, including campaigns, activations, claims and giveaways.


• Support privacy and data protection matters across the business.


• Assist with employment law matters and day-to-day People-related legal questions.


• Contribute to brand protection and intellectual property initiatives, including trademarks and enforcement activities.


• Provide practical, risk-based legal advice that balances business objectives with legal and reputational risk.


• Develop templates, guidance and scalable ways of working that help teams operate more efficiently.


• Support the continued optimisation of contract management systems, legal workflows and processes to enable the business to scale effectively.


• Help build legal awareness across the organisation through practical guidance, training and playbooks.


• Provide day-to-day guidance and support to the Legal Intern and Legal Assistant.


• Identify risks early and provide clear recommendations and solutions.


• Work closely with the General Counsel on strategic projects and sensitive matters.

WHO YOU ARE:

• Master's degree in Law.
