Job summary

Van Storm Recruitment is seeking a Project Engineer – Mechanical to take technical ownership of the mechanical engineering scope for complex, custom-built superyachts from concept through design and basic engineering.

You will lead a small team of 2–3 engineers, coordinate mechanical drawings, layouts, and integration with naval, structural and electrical disciplines, with a hybrid working policy in Amsterdam and an ASAP start.

Qualifications

  • Must have eligibility to work in the Netherlands.
  • +5 years of project engineering or mechanical discipline lead/coordinator in yacht/shipbuilding design and engineering, preferably superyacht projects.
  • BSc or MSc in Mechanical Engineering.
  • Strong understanding of onboard mechanical systems (HVAC, piping, propulsion/engines, machinery) and spatial integration.
  • Knowledge of safety and regulatory standards (LR, SOLAS) and FEM/vibration analyses.
  • Experience producing and reviewing technical drawings, calculations and specifications with AutoCAD and 3D design tools.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills for cross-disciplinary coordination.

Responsibilities

  • Take technical ownership of the mechanical engineering scope including general arrangements and space allocation for HVAC, piping, engines, and other onboard systems.
  • Coordinate development and delivery of mechanical drawings, calculations and specifications using AutoCAD and 3D design tools.
  • Implement and safeguard the quality of mechanical systems and ensure integration with the yacht design.
  • Lead and guide a small team of 2–3 mechanical engineers and draftsmen/designers.
  • Coordinate mechanical design from concept through final design with other disciplines (Naval Architecture, Structural, Electrical).
  • Act as technical point of contact for mechanical scope and resolve integration matters with internal teams, designers, and suppliers.

Job description

As a Project Engineer – Mechanical, you will take technical ownership of the mechanical engineering scope for complex, custom-built superyachts, from concept through design and basic engineering. Working within a multidisciplinary project team, you will coordinate the mechanical engineering activities, guide engineers and designers, and ensure that mechanical systems are effectively integrated with the wider yacht design.

What you will do:
  • Take technical ownership of the mechanical engineering scope, including general arrangements, system layouts and space allocation for HVAC, piping, engines, etc. and other onboard mechanical systems.
  • Coordinate the development and delivery of mechanical drawings, calculations and technical specifications, working with AutoCAD and 3D design tools throughout the design and basic engineering phases.
  • Implement and safeguard the quality of mechanical systems, ensuring designs are technically feasible, consistent with specifications and properly integrated into the overall yacht design.
  • Lead and provide project-based guidance to a small team of 2–3 Mechanical Engineers and designers/draftsmen, coordinating priorities, progress and engineering deliverables.
  • Coordinate the mechanical design from concept through to final design, working closely with Project Engineers and the Naval Architecture, Structural, Electrical and other engineering disciplines.
  • Act as a technical point of contact for the mechanical scope, communicating and resolving technical and integration matters with internal teams, designers, suppliers and external project partners.
What you already have:
  • Must have existing eligibility to work in The Netherlands
  • +5 years of Project Engineering or as a mechanical discipline lead / coordinator in yacht building or shipbuidling design and engineering preferrably superyacht projects
  • BSc. or MSc. in Mechanical Engineering
  • Strong understanding of onboard mechanical systems, such as HVAC, piping, propulsion/engines and machinery, including their spatial integration and arrangement.
  • Strong knowledge of safety and regulatory standards (LR, REG LY Code, SOLAS), and FEM/vibration analyses
  • Experience producing and reviewing technical drawings, calculations and specifications, with good knowledge of AutoCAD and 3D design tools.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills since you will be involved in communication with designers, owner representatives, subcontractors and co-creators
  • Available for full-time in the Amsterdam Area
  • 6-month assignment with an ASAP start, with the potential for extension and opportunities to move onto other projects. Open to both ZZP professionals and project-based employment.
  • Salary depending on seniority and relevant experience
