Job summary

Qualifications

• Minimum eight years of mechanical engineering experience on mission critical facilities.
• Degree in Mechanical Engineering or related discipline required.
• Strong knowledge of cooling design, chiller plants, CRAH/CRAC and liquid cooling.
• Clear communication and ability to present complex concepts.

Responsibilities

• Lead mechanical due diligence on new sites and build-to-suit opportunities.
• Own cooling topology, capacity and equipment assumptions for pre-construction risk.
• Assess cooling strategies against high-density AI loads and site conditions.
• Provide go/no-go recommendations on mechanical feasibility before deals close.
• Review equipment availability, lead times and CAPEX trade-offs across sites.
• Help write technical standards, design criteria and readiness gates.
• Act as the main mechanical interface across Site Selection, Development, Energy and Delivery.
• Hand over validated mechanical scope to Delivery for construction.

JDL Recruitment are delighted to be partnering with a leading AI cloud infrastructure company as they look to expand their team with a Mechanical Design Engineer in the Netherlands.

This is a permanent, full-time position, working remotely from anywhere in the Netherlands with occasional travel. You’ll be joining a small team that’s building the function from the ground up, assessing new sites and setting the technical standards for their AI data centre growth. Responsibilities:

• Lead mechanical due diligence on new sites, existing facilities, colocation capacity and build-to-suit opportunities
• Own cooling topology, capacity and equipment assumptions feeding the pre-construction risk register
• Assess liquid, air and hybrid cooling strategies against site conditions and high-density AI loads
• Give Go / No-Go recommendations on mechanical feasibility before deals close
• Review equipment availability, lead times and capex trade-offs across candidate sites
• Help write the technical standards, design criteria and readiness gates for future acquisitions
• Act as the main mechanical interface across Site Selection, Development, Energy and Delivery
• Hand over technically validated mechanical scope to Delivery, ready for construction

Requirements:

• 8+ years in mechanical engineering on mission critical facilities. Data centre experience is a bonus, but not essential
• Degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline
• Strong knowledge of cooling design, chiller plants, CRAH/CRAC and liquid cooling
• Understanding of capacity planning, equipment selection and capex trade-offs
• Experience in feasibility or due diligence work is a plus
• BMS integration, commissioning or a chartered/PE qualification are a plus
• Comfortable working in a fast-moving, build-from-scratch environment
• Strong communication and presentation skills
