Senior Mechanical Engineer – Amsterdam, Netherlands
JDL Recruitment are delighted to be partnering with a leading European data centre general contractor, who are seeking Senior Mechanical Engineers to support the design, coordination, and delivery of a major hyperscale data centre project in Amsterdam, Netherlands.
About the Role
The Senior Mechanical Engineer will play a key role in overseeing all mechanical services across the full project lifecycle — from design review and procurement through to installation and commissioning. Working as part of a multidisciplinary project team, this position will ensure that all mechanical systems are delivered to the highest technical, safety, and quality standards.
This is a fantastic opportunity to join one of Europe’s most established data centre contractors, currently delivering multiple large-scale projects across seven countries, with over 400 MW of active capacity in development.
Responsibilities
- Review detailed design packages to identify gaps, deviations, or contradictions in project specifications and IFC drawings.
- Generate and track RFIs to resolve design ambiguities or technical issues.
- Validate mechanical equipment sizing, including pipework, containment, and supports, and recommend optimisations where appropriate.
- Manage submittals, procurement tracking, and delivery verification of mechanical systems and equipment.
- Conduct system walk-downs and inspections to verify compliance with design, specification, and project standards.
- Coordinate with project BIM and multidisciplinary teams to ensure seamless integration between mechanical, electrical, and architectural elements.
- Participate in supplier and subcontractor meetings, monitoring progress against schedule and quality benchmarks.
- Ensure subcontractor compliance with all operational, health, and safety requirements.
- Prepare detailed method statements and risk assessments for mechanical installation activities.
- Support troubleshooting and commissioning efforts to resolve technical issues efficiently.
- Maintain accurate document control and update all relevant logs and records.
Qualifications
- Degree in Mechanical Engineering (or equivalent qualification).
- Minimum 5 years’ experience in a similar role within a mechanical and electrical contracting environment.
- Strong understanding of mechanical systems for mission‑critical or data centre environments.
- Excellent communication, coordination, and interpersonal skills.
- Proven ability to manage subcontractors and maintain effective client relationships.
- Proficiency in MS Word and Excel.
- A mechanical trade background or qualification is advantageous.
