Job summary

Darwin Recruitment is seeking an MCP Expert to lead Java API integration with AI agents in Amsterdam on a 12-month contract. This role focuses on designing, building, and owning the MCP integration layer and its deployment across the enterprise platform on Azure.

You will manage MCP servers and Java REST API development within MCP-based architectures, covering development, UAT, and production. A hybrid work model with two days onsite in Amsterdam is expected, collaborating closely with platform

Responsibilities

• Design, build and maintain MCP servers and tool integrations exposing enterprise Java APIs to AI agents and LLM applications.
• Develop and integrate Java REST APIs within MCP-based architectures on the central platform.
• Own integrations across dev, UAT and production – robust, monitored, production-grade.
• Deploy and operate on Microsoft Azure (App Services, Functions, API Management, Azure Open AI / AI Foundry).
• Partner with platform, architecture and product teams to define MCP standards and best practice across the organization.
• Take point on troubleshooting, production support and incident resolution.
• Shape documentation, testing strategy and release process from the ground up.

Get in on the ground floor of enterprise AI integration.

Our client is building the platform that connects AI agents to real enterprise systems and they need an MCP expert who’s already done this in production, not just in a proof of concept. This is a genuinely rare opportunity: MCP is brand new, production deployments are scarce, and this role puts you at the center of a Central Platform Team shaping how AI agents talk to Java-based enterprise APIs at scale.

The Role

You’ll design, build and own the integration layer connecting AI agents and LLM-based applications to enterprise Java APIs via MCP. You’ll work the full delivery lifecycle Dev, UAT, production on Azure, with real ownership and real influence over how the organization adopts MCP going forward.

What You’ll Do

• Design, build and maintain MCP servers and tool integrations exposing enterprise Java APIs to AI agents and LLM applications

What You Bring

• Proven, hands-on MCP experience you’ve built MCP servers, tools and integrations, not just read the spec
• Strong Java development background with real REST API design and integration experience
• Solid Microsoft Azure experience deploying, configuring and running services in production
• Comfort across the full dev UAT production lifecycle, including live support
• Able to work from Amsterdam 2 days a week
• Strong English communication skills

Nice to Have

• Azure Open AI, Azure AI Foundry, or agentic AI framework experience
• APIM, Docker/Kubernetes, CI/CD via Azure DevOps
• Background on central platform or shared-services teams
• Dutch language skills
