Job summary

Thorizon group is seeking a Waste Engineer to lead development of a credible, licensable waste management strategy for molten salt reactor projects, starting with Pioneer. You will become the reference expert for radioactive waste management and integrate waste handling concepts into design and licensing from early stages.

You will work across multiple disciplines, tackle novel waste streams, and coordinate with regulators, treatment providers and transport organisations to deliver robust

Qualifications

• Strong expertise in radioactive waste management and characterization.
• Experience with waste acceptance criteria and disposal constraints.
• Knowledge of radiochemistry and/or nuclear fuel cycle.
• Experience with waste treatment and conditioning technologies.
• Understanding of nuclear safety and licensing processes.
• Experience with storage, transport and disposal of radioactive waste.
• Systems engineering for complex nuclear projects.
• Experience with decommissioning activities.

Responsibilities

• Develop waste management strategies and plans for Pioneer and Thorizon projects.
• Define waste streams, inventories, classifications and characterization needs.
• Translate waste criteria into design and operational requirements.
• Develop treatment, conditioning, storage, transport and disposal approaches.
• Address waste streams specific to chloride-bearing and alpha-contaminated waste.
• Contribute waste expertise to nuclear safety and licensing documentation.
• Coordinate research programmes for unresolved waste-management questions.
• Interface with regulators, research organisations and treatment providers.
