Position Summary:

The Maintenance Shift Lead provides hands‑on technical support and day‑to‑day coordination of maintenance activities for production equipment and systems. This position performs and supports troubleshooting, corrective maintenance, preventive maintenance, equipment modifications, and mechanical and electrical repairs to maintain safe and reliable production operations.

The Maintenance Shift Lead serves as the primary technical resource for assigned maintenance technicians during the shift, coordinates maintenance priorities with Production and other departments, and supports technician training and development.This role works under the direction of the Maintenance Supervisor and does not replace the Supervisor's formal people‑management responsibilities.

  • Perform and coordinate corrective and preventive maintenance on production equipment, machinery, and associated control systems.
  • Troubleshoot mechanical, electrical, automation, and equipment‑control issues and support timely repair and restoration of equipment.
  • Coordinate with Production to prioritize maintenance activities, troubleshoot equipment issues, and determine appropriate timing for equipment shutdowns and repairs.
  • Work with electrical, mechanical, automation, and other technical teams to identify equipment issues and estimate repair requirements and timelines.
  • Develop, maintain, and execute preventive maintenance schedules in accordance with established maintenance requirements.
  • Monitor equipment condition and identify recurring failures, maintenance needs, and opportunities to improve equipment reliability.
  • Support equipment modifications and improvements to address reliability, safety, maintainability, and production concerns.
  • Maintain accurate records of preventive maintenance, troubleshooting, repairs, equipment conditions, and completed maintenance activities.
  • Prepare and maintain maintenance documentation, including daily reports, check sheets, maintenance records, and related documentation.
  • Communicate equipment status, maintenance activities, recurring issues, and repair progress to Production, Maintenance leadership, and other appropriate teams.
  • Provide maintenance updates and presentations to Production teams as required.
  • Coordinate maintenance and preventive maintenance activities with Production and other supporting departments to minimize production disruption.
  • Conduct required Layered Process Audits (LPAs) thoroughly and within established timelines.
  • Ensure maintenance activities are performed safely and in accordance with Company procedures and applicable safety requirements.
  • Maintain cleanliness at work‑site in accordance with 5S3R Standards:

    • Sort, Set in order, Shine, Standardize, Sustain

    • Right Location, Right Quantity, Right Container

  • Perform other duties as assigned

Leadership Responsibilities:

  • Provide day‑to‑day technical direction and work coordination for Maintenance Technicians assigned to the shift.
  • Coordinate technician assignments and work priorities based on equipment conditions, production needs, preventive maintenance requirements, and direction from the Maintenance Supervisor.
  • Serve as a technical resource for technicians by assisting with complex troubleshooting, repairs, and maintenance activities.
  • Train, mentor, and support the development of Maintenance Technicians to strengthen technical knowledge, troubleshooting skills, and maintenance capabilities.
  • Communicate shift priorities, equipment status, safety concerns, and outstanding maintenance issues to technicians and Maintenance leadership.
  • Promote accountability for safe work practices, maintenance standards, documentation, quality of repairs, and completion of assigned work.
  • Support effective shift handoffs by communicating equipment conditions, completed repairs, open issues, and maintenance priorities.
  • Promote teamwork and effective communication between Maintenance, Production, Engineering, and other supporting departments.
  • Escalate significant equipment, safety, staffing, or operational concerns to the Maintenance Supervisor as appropriate.
  • Lead by example and promote a safe, respectful, collaborative, and results‑focused work environment.

Required Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • 1–3+ years of experience in industrial maintenance, machine maintenance, electrical systems, automation, machine manufacturing, or a related technical field.
  • Experience with machine repair, troubleshooting, and preventive maintenance.
  • Working knowledge of production and processing equipment maintenance.
  • Experience troubleshooting mechanical, electrical, and/or automation‑related equipment issues.
  • Basic proficiency with Microsoft Office applications.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Vocational certificate, associate degree, or technical training in Industrial Maintenance, Electrical Technology, Mechatronics, Automation, or a related technical field.
  • Experience with Mitsubishi and/or Omron PLC‑controlled equipment.
  • Experience working with automated manufacturing equipment and control systems.
  • Previous experience providing technical leadership, training, mentoring, or work coordination for maintenance technicians.
  • Experience within automotive, battery, advanced manufacturing, or another highly automated manufacturing environment.
  • Experience with Total Productive Maintenance (TPM) or preventive maintenance programs.

Work Environment & Physical Requirements:

  • Work is primarily performed in an industrial manufacturing and maintenance environment.
  • Regularly required to work around production equipment, automated machinery, electrical systems, mechanical equipment, and manufacturing processes.
  • May be exposed to noise, moving mechanical equipment, manufacturing materials, temperature variations, and other conditions typical of an industrial environment.
  • Must be able to wear required personal protective equipment (PPE) and comply with all applicable safety requirements.
  • Requires regular standing, walking, bending, reaching, kneeling, climbing stairs, and accessing production and equipment areas.
  • Must be able to use hand tools, power tools, diagnostic equipment, and other tools required to perform maintenance activities.
  • Must be able to work assigned shifts, including days, nights, weekends, holidays, and overtime as required by production and business needs.
