Job summary

ESA is seeking a Lead Instrument End-to-End Data Chain Engineer for the Copernicus Sentinel-2 Next Generation mission, based at ESTEC, Noordwijk, Netherlands. The role entails delivering end-to-end data chain subsystems, coordinating with D/TEC experts and project teams, and guiding design, verification, and integration activities through Phase B2/C/D/E1.

You will lead a team of engineers and external support, manage technical risks, and report to the Payload Manager.

Qualifications

• A master’s degree in a relevant engineering discipline is required for this post together with 4 years of relevant professional experience.
• Alternatively, candidates with a bachelor’s degree, complemented by an additional four (4) years of relevant professional experience can be considered.

Responsibilities

• Bear technical responsibility for the delivery of the end-to-end data chain subsystems of the overall S2 NG optical instrument.
• Supervise design, development, manufacturing, integration, verification, test and characterisation of instrument data chain elements (ADCs, high-speed memories, interconnects, processing architectures, instrument control electronics).
• Coordinate with system elements and experts from D/TEC for required support.
• Lead verification activities, monitor progress and manage technical risks.
• Provide regular reports to project management and support schedule optimisation and risk mitigation.
• Lead a team of engineers and specialised support from D/TEC and D/OPS, and support other Copernicus optical projects as needed.
