Job description

At AddOptics, we design and manufacture precision lenses for the next generation of smart eyewear. Our lenses integrate the newest technology (such as electronics and displays) seamlessly with vision correction, and allow the end user to experience the next generation of smart glasses in the most comfortable way. As we scale and expand our products and production capabilities we are also expanding our engineering team in our technology center in Rotterdam.

Your Role

As a Prototype Engineer, you will play a hands-on role in turning advanced optical designs into real, high-precision products. Working closely with our production team, you will execute and refine our proprietary casting process, use rapid prototyping tools to improve workflows, and help solve the practical engineering challenges behind next-generation wearable technology. This is a high-impact opportunity for a technically minded professional who enjoys building, experimenting, and contributing directly to cutting-edge hardware development.
This is hands-on, applied engineering: you design it, make it, test it, improve it, and prove that it works reliably.

What You’ll Be Doing

Precision Casting: Execute the casting process for prescription AR lenses in our R&D lab, as part of our engineering team.
Design Improvements: Beyond casting, you will work with in-house prototyping tools. You’ll be operating 3D printers and laser cutters to create jigs, fixtures, and tools that improve our workflow.
Quality Control: Perform measurement and analysis of our products. You help the team make sure our global customers receive only the best quality lenses.

What We’re Looking For

The Prototyping Mindset: You are comfortable with hands-on engineering. If you’ve spent time in a makerspace or lab with 3D printers and laser cutters, you’ll fit right in. 3D CAD modeling experience is a plus.

Punctuality & Precision: You understand that in optics, the details are the product. You take pride in high-standard, repeatable work.

Ownership: You don’t just wait for instructions; you see a way to make a tool better and you take the initiative to fix it.

Will to learn: You are looking to apply your technical knowledge to real-world hardware, learning about new methods and processes to apply in your work.

Why Join AddOptics?

Be a Core Contributor: In our lean team, your work is visible and vital. You’ll work directly with senior engineers and have a real impact on our manufacturing success.
Deep-Tech & Rapid Prototyping: Gain experience with the hardware and processes powering the next generation of AR devices.
