Job summary
McGregor Boyall is seeking a Junior Control Engineer to join our automation team, contributing to the design, programming, testing and commissioning of industrial control systems across varied process environments.
You will work on PLC, HMI and SCADA projects with Siemens tooling (TIA Portal, Step 7, WinCC, InTouch), prepare specifications and test documentation, and support installation, commissioning and problem-solving on site, including international travel when required.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree or higher in Automation, Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics, Industrial Engineering or related discipline.
- 0–3 years' experience in control systems, automation or industrial engineering.
- Academic or practical experience with PLC control systems.
- Basic knowledge of Siemens PLCs, ideally S7-1200 or S7-1500.
- Basic experience with TIA Portal and/or Step 7.
- Understanding of HMI and SCADA systems, ideally WinCC.
- Basic understanding of Profibus, ProfiNet or Modbus.
- Good understanding of electrical/control systems and industrial automation.
- Any exposure to installation, testing or commissioning would be advantageous.
- Experience within food & beverage, personal care or process industries would be beneficial.
- Good spoken and written English.
- Full driving licence.
Responsibilities
- Supporting the design and programming of PLC, HMI and SCADA systems.
- Assisting with PLC programming and modifications using Siemens TIA Portal and Step 7.
- Supporting HMI and SCADA development, including WinCC and InTouch.
- Preparing technical documentation, specifications, functional descriptions and test documentation.
- Supporting safety systems, including safety relays and safety PLCs.
- Working with industrial communication protocols such as Profibus, ProfiNet and Modbus.
- Supporting installation, testing, troubleshooting and commissioning activities.
- Helping identify and resolve technical issues throughout projects.
- Working closely with senior engineers, technicians, clients and wider project teams.
- Supporting projects from initial design and programming through to testing and commissioning.
- Travelling to project sites, including internationally when required.
