Junior Appraiser

Department: Appraisals

Employment Type: Full Time

Location: Duiven, Netherlands

Reporting To: Appraisals Team Leader

Compensation: €34,776 / year

Description

At Vintage.com, we’re building the most trusted platform for pre-loved items. We help people give valuable things a new life, making the experience simple, transparent and rewarding.

We bring together specialist knowledge, thoughtful technology and genuine care for our customers. By helping more items stay in circulation, we create value for people and make a positive impact at the same time.

Our Appraisals team is at the heart of Vintage.com, ensuring every item that comes through our doors is assessed with accuracy, care and fairness. We’re the first team to handle our customers’ items, reviewing each box thoroughly so we can support clear and trustworthy offers.

Based near Arnhem, the team supports customers across Europe and keeps products moving into the wider business. Appraisers work closely with Team Leaders, category specialists, Operations and Sales, sharing knowledge and improving decisions together.

As a Junior Appraiser, you’ll learn how to assess and value a wide range of vintage and antique items, from jewellery, watches and medals to toys, cameras and collectables.

Your initial training will take place in our Training Academy, where you’ll build practical appraisal skills, category knowledge, confidence with our systems and a clear understanding of our quality standards. You’ll be supported by your Team Leader and learn directly from category specialists.

Every customer box is different, so there’s always something new to discover. As your confidence grows, you’ll make accurate appraisal decisions more independently, complete reliable records and help products move smoothly through Vintage.com. This is a hands‑on, varied role for someone who is curious, careful and excited to keep learning.

  • Complete your Training Academy programme and apply your learning confidently in day-to-day appraisals.
  • Build towards appraising the contents of 30 customer boxes a day by the end of your first three months.
  • Once fully onboarded, consistently appraise 30+ customer boxes a day while meeting agreed quality standards.
  • Maintain Quality Control accuracy above 95%, supported by regular audits and feedback.
  • Keep acceptance rates in line with agreed Appraisals team measures.
  • Work positively with Team Leaders, specialists and colleagues to improve quality and workflow.
What You’ll Do
Learning and development
  • Complete structured training in our Training Academy and apply new knowledge in your daily work.
  • Build knowledge across categories including gold, silver, jewellery, watches, medals, toys, cameras and collectables.
  • Learn appraisal methods, systems and quality standards from category specialists and your Team Leader.
  • Take ownership of your development by asking questions, acting on feedback and making the most of learning opportunities.
Appraisal and customer decisions
  • Assess and value customer items carefully, accurately and fairly.
  • Review each customer box thoroughly and record clear, consistent appraisal decisions.
  • Make independent decisions as your knowledge grows, involving a specialist when you need guidance.
  • Support transparent and trustworthy customer offers through careful judgement and attention to detail.
Quality and operational standards
  • Complete data entry accurately and reliably in our appraisal systems.
  • Work towards agreed volume, Quality Control and acceptance-rate measures without compromising care or accuracy.
  • Participate positively in audits, quality checks and feedback sessions.
  • Follow safe working practices, keeping your workspace tidy and organised and lifting customer boxes safely.
Teamwork and continuous improvement
  • Collaborate with Team Leaders, specialists, Operations and Sales to support smooth workflows.
  • Adapt positively when processes or priorities change, learning new ways of working quickly.
  • Share ideas and observations that could improve quality, efficiency or the team experience.
What You’ll Bring
  • A strong sense of ownership and accountability for both the quality and productivity of your work.
  • A genuine interest in vintage, antique and collectable items.
  • Excellent attention to detail and a strong focus on accuracy.
  • Curiosity, a willingness to learn and the confidence to ask questions and act on feedback.
  • Strong organisation skills and the ability to manage several tasks in a busy environment.
  • Clear, positive communication and a collaborative approach.
  • Reliability, punctuality and a consistent approach to your work.
  • Confidence using basic IT systems and completing accurate data entry.
  • Handle and move customer boxes safely, using appropriate equipment or assistance where required.
  • Experience with jewellery, antiques, collectables, second-hand goods or a related product environment.
  • Previous experience handling, assessing or valuing physical products.

No specific qualifications or previous appraisal experience are required. We’ll give you structured training through our Training Academy and support you as your knowledge and confidence grow.

In this role, living our values means:
  • Treat every customer’s items with care, fairness and respect.
  • Stay curious, ask thoughtful questions and share what you learn.
  • Take pride in accurate decisions, reliable records and consistent standards.
  • Contribute to an inclusive team where people support one another and speak openly.
