Job summary

Van Oord is seeking an experienced Infrastructure/Cloud Solution Designer to translate business requirements into scalable on-premise and cloud infrastructure. You will work with domain Architects, IT disciplines and product owners to design high-availability, secure solutions that align with technology standards and roadmaps.

You will lead architectural discussions, produce design artifacts and guide engineering teams while embracing a practical, result-driven mindset in a dynamic international

Qualifications

• Master’s degree or work level experience required.
• 5+ years of infrastructure and cloud solution design experience, and 2+ years in international environments.
• Strong networking, virtualization, security, Azure and container services knowledge.
• Excellent presentation and influencing/ negotiation abilities.
• Strong problem-solving and analytical skills with a practical outcome focus.
• Willingness to drive change and learn.
• Ability to create visualizations, designs and architecture materials.
• Experience in multi-disciplinary teams in a dynamic setting.
• Fluent in English; native Dutch preferred.

• A master’s degree or work level experience.
• At least 5 years of infrastructure and cloud solution designer experience, and at least 2 years of tangible solution architecture experience in an international environment
• Strong knowledge of networking, server virtualization, security technology, Microsoft Azure and container services
• Decent presentation and influencing/negotiation skills
• Strong problem-solving and analytical skills, but driving for a practical outcome (!)
• A natural willingness / eagerness to drive change
• Comfortable with creating visualizations, designs, and architecture materials
• Experienced in working in multi-disciplinary teams in a constantly changing environment
• Fluent in English – and we prefer native Dutch speakers.

As the Infrastructure/Cloud Solution Designer, you will design and implement technology solutions tailored to meet specific Van Oord business needs. You will translate business and business system requirements into infrastructure requirements & solutions that are fit for purpose, on-premise and/or cloud-based. We need you to design the required infrastructure with a focus on technical feasibility, technology standardization, stability and scale – while ensuring information security and providing adequate performance.

You will have a strong role in the design of the required solutions based on our standards working together with domain Architects, IT disciplines, IT product owners, business- and information analysts.

You have a strong technical background in Infrastructure on-premise and Cloud, covering networking, virtual servers, security, and modernising applications with VMware, Azure, and container services. Your experience with on-premises and cloud infrastructure drives Van Oord IT landscape to the next level. You translate business system requirements into infrastructural requirements and design. You guide our operational IT disciplines towards the right technical direction and support the maintenance and overview of our infrastructure landscape and its roadmap.

Your responsibilities:

• Offering advice & insights on technical infrastructure solutions
• Design new or optimised infrastructure solutions, in close collaboration with the domain Architect Infra/Cloud.
• Align with business, IT, architects and project stakeholders on requirements (functional to technical translation) to ensure scalability, flexibility, performance and security.
• Be involved in the delivery of business projects/programs.
• Align with operational IT disciplines to implement, renew, improve current solutions.
• Automation minded, identify opportunities, design to best practices, enforce standardisation and efficiency based on compliancy and security requirements.
• Contributes in producing and maintaining HLD documentation and related architectural deliverables for business and IT projects.
• Contributes to the creation of HLD or similar documents in business and IT projects
• Provide designs (HLD, LLD) and guidance towards our engineering teams.
• Provide expert guidance to IT operations teams in resolving complex domain-related issues.
• Work with Product Owner(s) on defining lifecycle and roadmap needs.

YOUR WORKPLACE

You will be working from our head office in Rotterdam – with a splendid view on the beautiful Maas. You can start or end your working day at our own gym in the office. Of course there is room to work from home, while maintaining a healthy mix in working together as a team and with our stakeholders.

This position is available within the multi-disciplinary Enterprise Architecture team: Operating in a highly international enterprise environment, with members and stakeholders across the globe.

The Architecture team consists of 8 people and is growing. We are spread across Enterprise Architecture and domain Architecture. You will get a buddy to help you find your way into the company. You can learn a lot from your colleagues, and we value an open learning environment.
