Job summary

Van Oord in Rotterdam is seeking an Intern QHSE Marine to support the development of operational procedures and analyze existing processes. You will work closely with the QHSE team to enhance fleet safety and performance while developing valuable skills.

The ideal candidate is a third- or fourth-year student in a relevant field, enrolled at a Dutch educational institution, and has strong analytical and communication skills. This internship will provide numerous opportunities for personal and professional growth.

Job description

Every day, Van Oord vessels operate in complex environments across the world. Safety and security are essential to everything we do. As an Intern QHSE Marine, you will support the development and documentation of operational procedures that help our fleet work safely and effectively. You will analyse existing processes, identify opportunities for improvement, and help create practical solutions that can be applied across our vessels. Throughout your internship, you will work closely with your Team Lead and experienced colleagues who will support your development. This role offers a unique opportunity to combine analytical work with practical maritime operations. Your contribution will directly support the continued safety and performance of our fleet.

You enjoy analysing information, improving processes, and working together with others to achieve results. You are curious, eager to learn and comfortable taking initiative in a dynamic environment. You communicate clearly and can translate complex information into practical solutions. To be successful in this internship, you bring:

  • Third- or fourth-year student in Industrial Engineering & Management, Business Administration or a related field
  • Enrolled at a Dutch educational institution
  • Strong analytical skills and a proactive mindset
  • Good communication skills and a collaborative approach
  • Good command of the English and Dutch language, both written and spoken

Internship duration of 5 months

Preferred start date: 7 September

As a valued member of our QHSE Marine team, you will work alongside six colleagues with diverse backgrounds and levels of experience. Together, you will help strengthen the way we work and ensure that safety remains at the heart of our operations. Your work will contribute to clear and consistent processes that support crews around the world. Through your analyses and recommendations, you will help turn knowledge into practical improvements. Your responsibilities include:

  • Supporting the development and improvement of procedures and operational plans
  • Reviewing and documenting existing processes to ensure clarity and consistency
  • Translating findings into practical procedures and clear reports
  • Embedding outcomes into daily operations and sharing best practices across the fleet
  • Collaborating closely with colleagues to deliver sustainable improvements
