Job summary

Sonion NL in Hoofddorp is offering an internship with the Project Management Office (PMO) to join cross-functional teams. You will interact with project data, develop reporting and portfolio views, and gain hands-on experience in complex product-development programs across locations.

Starting February 2027 for 5–6 months, the internship provides an €605 monthly allowance, workspace on-site, and travel if needed. You will work with a supportive team to deliver practical, decision-ready insights.

Qualifications

• Currently studying Industrial Engineering, Engineering Management, Operations Management, Data/Business Analytics, or a related technical or business discipline.
• Analytical and structured, with an interest in understanding how complex organizations deliver projects.
• Comfortable working with data and structuring complex information.
• Familiarity with Excel and/or data-analysis and visualization tools; experience with Power BI or similar tools is an advantage.

Responsibilities

The Department

The Project Management Office (PMO) at Sonion is accountable for the execution of innovation and product-development projects across our international organization.

Our Project Managers lead cross-functional project teams from project initiation through delivery, bringing together technical, commercial, quality, operations and supply-chain activities to achieve the agreed project objectives.

In addition to leading individual projects, the PMO manages execution at portfolio level. This includes creating transparency across projects, anticipating dependencies and constraints, supporting prioritization and resource decisions, and ensuring that management has the information needed to make timely decisions.

We continuously develop better ways of planning, integrating and communicating project and portfolio information, with the aim of making execution simpler, faster and more predictable.

Our department is currently looking for an intern who can contribute to one or more of the following assignments. The final scope will be selected based on the most relevant business needs at the start of the internship and aligned with the intern’s background and interests.

1. Smart Reporting – Finalization and Implementation

Goal of the project

Further develop and finalize our approach to project reporting, turning project information into concise and decision-relevant insights while reducing unnecessary reporting effort. The project may include improving the way information is collected, structured, visualized and used across different management levels.

Goal of the project

Develop and improve portfolio-level views that provide clear visibility of project status, key milestones, dependencies, risks and upcoming decisions. The objective is to make complex portfolio information easy to understand and actionable.

3. Resource Planning

Goal of the project

Support the further development of resource-planning methods and tools, connecting project demand with available capabilities. The project will contribute to identifying constraints, competing demands and potential resource conflicts and support prioritization and sequencing decisions.

4. Integrated Delivery Planning

Goal of the project:

Develop an integrated view of the project portfolio connecting major milestones, decision points, dependencies and resource constraints across projects. The objective is to improve anticipation of portfolio-level impacts and enable more effective execution planning.

5. Project Execution Support

Goal of the project:

Join an active cross-functional project team and work alongside an experienced Project Manager, gaining hands-on exposure to how complex product-development projects are led and executed.

Depending on the project and business needs, the intern may support project planning, milestone and deliverable follow-up, preparation of project reviews and decisions, risk and dependency management, and coordination across functions. The level of responsibility can evolve during the internship based on experience and demonstrated capability.

• Taking ownership of a defined improvement assignment, from understanding the problem through development, testing and practical implementation.
• The exact activities will depend on the selected assignment and the business priorities at the time.

Your Profile

• Currently studying Industrial Engineering, Business Engineering, Engineering Management, Operations Management, Data/Business Analytics, or a related technical or business discipline.
• Analytical and structured, with an interest in understanding how complex organizations deliver projects.
• Comfortable working with data and structuring complex information.
• Familiarity with Excel and/or data-analysis and visualization tools; experience with Power BI or similar tools is an advantage.
• Able to look beyond the data and understand the underlying business problem.
• Proactive, solution-oriented and willing to take ownership of responsibilities.
• Curious and not afraid to question existing ways of working and propose better solutions.

• Fluent in written and spoken English.
