Job description

About Oceans of Energy

Oceans of Energy is the first company worldwide to design, build and operate (floating) offshore solar systems in harsh open sea conditions. Our technology enables large-scale renewable energy generation at sea, relieving spatial pressure on land while accelerating the global energy transition.

As we move towards commercial roll-out, we are exploring new integrated solutions where offshore solar creates additional value through synergies with other (offshore) industries.

Internship scope

We are looking for MSc interns who are available for at least four months (starting Sept/Oct/Nov 2026) to explore the techno-economic potential of offshore solar systems combined with aquaculture systems (fish and hang culture shellfish farming) and desalination facilities, situated next to the sea.

The main objective is to understand: what does the end-user actually need, and how can offshore solar best deliver value?

The assignment can be shaped around one of two clear internship tracks. You do not need to cover both tracks; we are looking for candidates who bring depth in either the technical/system design side or the market/business side.

Example key questions you will work on
  • What is the energy demand of the specific sector?
  • Where are the most promising geographic markets and use cases?
  • Who are the potential customers and how do they currently operate?
  • What system configurations are needed?
  • What are realistic cost ranges and business cases?
Two internship tracks

We are open to candidates with either of the following profiles. The two tracks are connected, but each intern will have a clear main focus area.

Track 1: Technical / Engineering

This track focuses on system design, energy modelling and technical integration:

  • PV system design and sizing (PV, storage, BOS)
  • Offshore integration concepts
  • Energy yield and demand matching
  • Techno-economic modelling
Track 2: Business Development / Strategy

This track focuses on market understanding, customer needs and business case development:

  • Mapping value chains
  • Identifying customer needs and pain points
  • Market screening (regions, segments)
  • Business case development
  • Go-to-market considerations
What we offer
  • A unique opportunity at the forefront of offshore solar innovation
  • High level of responsibility and ownership
  • Direct exposure to real commercial and technical challenges
  • A dynamic, mission-driven team
  • Laptop, monthly intern allowance, fun team events, BBQs
Practical
  • Internship start: Fall 2026
  • Duration: minimum 4 months
  • Location: (Sassenheim/hybrid) - 15 min walk from station

Your profile
  • MSc student (mandatory) in Sustainable Energy Technology, Engineering, Offshore Engineering, Business, Strategy or a related field
  • Clear interest in offshore and renewables
  • Analytical and structured thinker
  • Curious and proactive ("startup mentality")
  • Comfortable working independently and in a team
  • Strong communication skills in English
