Job summary

TNO invites MSc students to contribute to an internship focused on coupling energy system optimisation with transmission grid models using DIgSILENT PowerFactory. You will develop workflows and scripts to map scenarios from Python-based optimisers to power grid models and perform load-flow and contingency analyses.

You will work in a multidisciplinary team, gain hands-on experience with industry-standard software, and contribute results to a thesis and potentially a publication.

Qualifications

• Solid knowledge of power systems (load flow, network operation, contingency analysis).
• Experience with DIgSILENT PowerFactory or comparable tools; scripting is a plus.
• Basic knowledge of mathematical optimisation and Python is expected.

Responsibilities

• Build and verify a representative transmission grid model in PowerFactory.
• Develop an automated Python interface to map scenarios from energy system models onto the network model.
• Run load-flow and N-1 contingency analyses and feed results back into the optimisation loop.
• Assess siting options for large-scale generation with respect to congestion and reinforcement needs.
