Job description

Internship Engineering – Topology Optimized Structural Link

Within a new electric vehicle project, we are looking for an Engineering Intern focused on topology optimization and lightweight structural design. For a new component that integrates several mechanical and electrical parts, your goal is to determine how the structure can be made as light, strong, and efficient as possible.

Who we are

We are a rapidly growing company specializing in restoring and customizing Land Rover Defenders to the finest detail. Think leather upholstery, powerful V8 engines, special rims, and optimized suspension. We have successfully developed an electric Defender and are always striving to elevate the Defender to a higher level.

What we are looking for
  • You are a university student (WO level) with a background in mechanical engineering, automotive engineering, aerospace engineering, structural engineering, materials engineering, or a comparable technical field.
  • You are interested in lightweight structural design, topology optimization, and vehicle components.
  • You have an affinity for FEA, structural analysis, load cases, and design validation.
  • You are interested in investigating mechanical and electrical integration within a single component.
  • Experience with CAD, FEM software, or topology optimization tools is a plus.
  • Knowledge of additive manufacturing, metal 3D printing, or design for additive manufacturing is a plus.
  • You work analytically, independently, and in a structured manner.
  • You enjoy translating theoretical optimization into a manufacturable vehicle component.
What will you do?

You will investigate how an integrated structural vehicle component can be designed as light and efficient as possible using topology optimization and the possibilities of metal 3D printing.

  • Analyze the function, interfaces, and loads of a new structural vehicle component.
  • Define load cases, boundary conditions, and design constraints.
  • Perform topology optimization for a subframe or structural link.
  • Investigate the possibilities and limitations of metal 3D printing.
  • Translate optimization results into a manufacturable CAD design.
  • Perform or support structural analyses and design iterations.
  • Contribute ideas on the integration of mechanical and electrical components.
  • Investigate how the same approach could later be applied to wishbones, hubs, or brake calipers.
  • Collaborate with engineering and vehicle integration teams on feasibility and application.
Benefits
  • A fun and dynamic working environment, always developing and evolving.
  • Daily fruit, breakfast, and hot lunch cooked with organic products by an in-house chef (vegetarian option available).
  • A workplace with a public transport (metro) next door in Amsterdam West.
  • A motivated and friendly team.
  • Half an hour of soccer every day during the break.
  • Friday always ends with drinks.

Please note that you must already be eligible to work in the Netherlands, as we are currently unable to provide relocation or visa sponsorship.
