Job summary

bunq is seeking an Internal Auditor - Regulatory Compliance in Amsterdam to safeguard our regulatory standing across markets. You will design and execute cross-domain audits ( AML/KYC, data protection, market conduct ) and drive remediation with business teams to close gaps.

You’ll build an audit roadmap, assess high-risk regulatory areas, and evaluate the impact of regulatory changes on operational readiness, ensuring we stay audit-ready and compliant before enforcement deadlines.

Qualifications

• Experience auditing AML/KYC, data protection (GDPR/similar), or market conduct in financial services/fintech.
• Audit methodology: risk-based planning, workpaper development, sampling, presenting findings to executives/regulators.
• Regulatory knowledge: understand banking regulators, interpret guidance, navigate inquiries/examinations.
• Excellent communication: translate regulations into actions for business teams; credible with regulators and leadership.
• Fluency in English (multilingual a plus).

As an Internal Auditor - Regulatory Compliance, your mission is to safeguard bunq's regulatory standing by identifying and mitigating compliance gaps, ensuring adherence to evolving regulations across all markets we operate in, and building the audit infrastructure that keeps our business resilient.

As an Internal Auditor - Regulatory Compliance, you will own:

• Conduct compliance audits across all business lines (AML, KYC, data protection, market conduct) and identify gaps with concrete remediation recommendations.
• Build and execute the audit roadmap, prioritizing high-risk regulatory domains and ensuring systematic coverage across our markets.
• Drive remediation tracking with business teams, ensuring findings are addressed and root causes fixed, not just symptoms.

1. Compliance Audit Program: Design and execute the first multi-domain compliance audit program, covering AML/KYC, data protection, market conduct, and operational risk, delivering findings and a forward remediation roadmap.
2. High-Risk Compliance Assessment: Conduct a deep-dive audit into bunq's highest-risk regulatory areas (likely payment services directives, data governance, or market-specific regulations depending on your markets), identifying systemic gaps and building a remediation plan.
3. Regulatory Change Impact Assessment: Analyze recently enacted or upcoming regulations across our markets and assess operational readiness, working with stakeholders to ensure bunq remains compliant before enforcement deadlines.

• Regulatory audit expertise: Proven experience auditing AML/KYC, data protection (GDPR/similar), or market conduct in financial services/fintech.
• Audit methodology: Risk-based audit planning, workpaper development, sampling techniques, and presenting findings to executives and regulators.
• Regulatory knowledge: You understand banking regulators, interpret guidance, and can navigate regulatory inquiries or examinations.
• Communication: Translate complex regulations into clear actions for business teams; credible voice with regulators and leadership.
• Fluency in English (ideally multilingual for our multi-market operations).
