Job description

Industrial Software and Automation Internship

Are you curious, analytical, and excited to build technology for real industrial machinery? At Intralox, one of the world’s leading innovators in conveyance solutions, we are looking for bachelor’s and master’s students to join our Integration Smart Carryway™ (ISC) team. You will work on one of three technical assignments involving edge-to-cloud connectivity, automated software testing, or system integration.

Why this internship matters

Our ISC team works at the intersection of machinery, automation, software, and controls engineering. We develop and improve technology that supports real industrial equipment and helps turn technical data into useful insights. Collaboration, curiosity, ownership, and continuous improvement are central to how we work.

Depending on your interests, experience, and study requirements, you will focus on one of the assignments below. You will investigate a genuine engineering challenge and create a proof of concept, testing solution, or practical recommendation that can inform future development. Experienced colleagues will support you while giving you room to structure and own your project.

Choose one of these assignments
1. Edge-to-cloud connectivity proof of concept

Do you want to build something real at the intersection of embedded systems, connectivity, and cloud integration? You will develop a proof of concept showing how equipment data can be collected at the edge, transferred reliably, and made available in the cloud in a practical, secure, and scalable way. You will combine hands‑on prototyping with research into remote connectivity, cybersecurity, and commercially available edge‑computing solutions.

2. Automated software‑testing infrastructure

Do you want to build and improve the automated testing infrastructure behind software that runs real industrial machinery? You will investigate automated‑testing frameworks, establish test pipelines, and integrate automated testing into existing development workflows. Your goal will be to help the team deploy software faster and with greater confidence.

3. MATLAB and CODESYS integration proof of concept

Do you want to work on a real technical challenge involving software, system integration, and automation? You will investigate how a MATLAB application can be integrated into the ISC PEM environment and communicate with CODESYS. You will develop a proof of concept that demonstrates technical feasibility and helps shape future development decisions.

What you’ll do:
  • Translate a technical challenge into a clear project plan and achievable internship goals.
  • Research relevant technologies, frameworks, and integration options to support evidence‑based decisions.
  • Design, build, and evaluate a proof of concept or testing solution that addresses a real ISC need.
  • Collaborate with ISC colleagues and international stakeholders to ensure your work is practical and relevant.
  • Document and present your approach, findings, and recommendations so the team can build on your work.
What you bring:
  • You are pursuing a bachelor’s or master’s degree in IT, software engineering, embedded systems, automation, controls engineering, electrical engineering, industrial automation, or a related technical field.
  • You are motivated by software, machinery, automation, and practical engineering challenges.
  • You can work independently, organize your project, and ask for guidance when needed.
  • You communicate clearly in English and are comfortable collaborating with international stakeholders.
  • You are available for an internship or graduation project of approximately six months and can work from the office two to three days per week.
Nice‑to‑haves
  • Interest or experience in embedded systems, device communication, cloud integration, edge computing, automated testing, MATLAB, CODESYS, or IT/OT interfaces.
  • A structured and analytical approach to prototyping, testing, and technical problem‑solving.
  • The ability to translate technical findings into practical recommendations.
  • Duration: Approximately six months.
  • Location: Hoofddorp, with an expected office presence of two to three days per week.
  • Internship type: Regular internship, graduation project, thesis assignment, or project internship, depending on your study program.
  • Allowance: €500 gross per month for bachelor’s students and €750 gross per month for master’s students. These amounts are based on 40 hours per week.
  • Travel: Travel reimbursement may be available for interns based in the Netherlands who do not have a student travel pass, subject to the current internship policy.
Why Intralox?
  • Work on a real technical challenge with practical value for an international engineering team.
  • Gain exposure to industrial automation, machinery, ISC equipment, and global stakeholders.
  • Receive guidance while having room to take ownership of your project.
  • Join a supportive team that values curiosity, collaboration, innovation, and continuous improvement.
