Job description

BlueHeart Energy was founded in 2016 as a deep-tech company that has developed a new sustainable thermoacoustics technology to radically improve the performance of heat pumps, enabling them to evolve from being the best solution in the market to becoming the perfect solution. Our technology is a disruptive approach to generate heat and cold, with potential to revolutionize the whole industry.

With our so called 'Blue Heart' inside, heat pumps turn into affordable, silent and flexible devices, capable of working with wide temperature ranges suitable for both new and existing houses. Importantly, BlueHeart doesn’t require any refrigerants and doesn’t generate any CO2e emissions.

About the Role

As a Test Engineer at BlueHeart Energy, you will be responsible for executing tests on our heat pump systems and components across multiple laboratory test benches.

Testing is the core activity of this role. A significant part of your day-to-day work will consist of running tests, monitoring systems, adjusting test conditions, troubleshooting issues, collecting data, and ensuring tests are executed safely, accurately, and consistently.

This position involves repetitive testing activities where precision, discipline, and reliability are essential. We therefore look for someone who enjoys practical laboratory work, follows procedures carefully, and takes pride in generating high-quality and repeatable test results.

The Testing team is at the heart of research and development and works closely with the R&D, Controls, and Engineering teams to validate new designs and technologies.

As we work with pressurized systems and laboratory equipment, safety is a key responsibility of this role and strict adherence to safety procedures is required.

What You’ll Do
  • Execute daily testing activities on heat pump systems and components.
  • Operate, monitor, and troubleshoot laboratory test benches.
  • Follow test procedures and ensure tests are performed consistently and accurately.
  • Collect, validate, and organize test data.
  • Perform basic pre-analysis of test results and identify abnormal behavior or deviations.
  • Support root cause investigations by helping reproduce issues and gathering evidence.
  • Assist in the development and improvement of test procedures and technical documentation.
  • Prepare test setups, instrumentation, and equipment before testing activities.
  • Maintain laboratory equipment and keep test areas organized and operational.
  • Work closely with R&D, Controls, and Engineering teams to support development activities.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement of testing methods, laboratory processes, and safety practices.
Typical Time Allocation
  • 80-90% Testing activities, monitoring, and troubleshooting
  • 10-20% Data review, documentation, and process improvement
What We’re Looking For
  • MBO or HBO degree in Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics, Electrical Engineering, Energy Technology, HVAC, or a related technical field.
  • 1-3 years of experience in a testing, laboratory, technician, or engineering environment is a plus.
  • Experience working with MATLAB is a strong plus.
  • Strong hands-on mentality and interest in practical engineering work.
  • Comfortable performing repetitive testing activities with a high level of accuracy and consistency.
  • Autonomous and self-motivated with a strong sense of ownership.
  • Problem-solving mindset and willingness to investigate technical issues.
  • Good communication skills and ability to collaborate across teams.
  • Startup mentality: ownership, adaptability, and initiative.
Nice to Have
  • Experience with laboratory testing or test benches.
  • Experience working with instrumentation and sensors.
  • Experience in clean tech, HVAC, energy systems, or high-tech manufacturing.
What We Offer
